We did Pfizer first two and Moderna booster. Going to aim for j&j next if it comes to that, otherwise whatever variant booster is the next big thing.

First shot was no issue, next was soreness and a few days of feeling tired and occasionally feverish, booster was a day or two of feeling under the weather. No issues since then, we're like... 11 days post shot now.

Both mid 30s with no known preexisting conditions other than being stereotypically mildly overweight Americans and I have a 50% chance at undiagnosed* factor V Leiden which is one reason why I've been so careful about this, I figure a weird blood clotting disorder absolutely would not pair well with a weird novel blood clot throwing virus. There's no real research to back that up but I can't see it improving things.

* I only found out it ran in one side of the family after my last doctors appointment before the world ended, and I've been avoiding all non emergency indoor medical facilities since then so I haven't been tested for it yet.

Ages ago some of you guys posted some home made ramen pics and I've been thinking about trying my hand at that. The last few weeks I've been cooking up a storm for the wife and I want to keep expanding my available meu choices for her. So far I've nailed a konjac noodle stir fry, chicken parm, tweaked the old beef & noodle standby, and saturday I rolled out homemade pizzas. She's enjoyed everything new so far but I don't want to repeat anything just yet. Bonus side effect, cooking for her has helped my sense of self worth tremendously.

Mrs. Slidebite has a diagnosed Factor V Leiden issue as well. She actually developed a DVT (why they tested her) in her mid 20s which was.... not fun.

She's had her 3x Pfizer on Thursday. She felt petty "blah" Friday but did have a lymph node swell in her armpit. She seems fine today.

My Moderna booster experience was interesting. First three hours, nothing. Hours 3 to 24, felt like I had a really bad cold - body ache, chills, everything. Then at hour 24, poof, gone, like a switch got flipped someplace.

depends on how crazy you want to go with it...some people just use packet noodles and kick it up with adding meat, toppings, ect and some people go all out and make their own broth, homemade noodles, slow-cooked meat, ect

Lawrence Phillips Always #1 to Me
Friday morning (NYE) I went to put something in my CR-V. I noticed that the contents of my glovebox were all over the floor. I looked in the back and my tools were still there. The stereo was also still in place. So I figured it was just some neighborhood kids walking around and looking for pocket change.

Later that morning I got in the cute-ute to move it and it was loud like Fox News and the smell was just as toxic. Someone stole the cat. The CR-V had been parked for two nights in front of my neighbor's house. One of my security camera saw it happen at the edge of its field of view, but all I can tell for sure is that it was a dark-colored sedan, that the thief swung around the block at 2:15 AM and then came back at 2:17 AM and was there and gone in all of 30 seconds. I am pretty sure the car was a Chrysler 300, but the footage isn't exactly conclusive on that point. The license plate is completely invisible because the head and tail lights blind my camera.

So I get to buy a new cat plus a wideband upstream oxygen sensor and a regular downstream sensor. And I couldn't get any of it until tomorrow because of the holiday. Lucky for me my friend can weld in a universal sensor so I can save a few bucks on that.

Edit: its a little more convincing that it's a 300 when you can see the car in motion. The pronounced fender flares, the shape and position of the tail lights, the prominent, high door handles all make it look like a Chrysler to me.

Get yourself some decent quality plain ramen noodles instead of the cheap stuff that comes with the dried packets, and then you can use this for really good 'quick' homemade tonkatsu ramen, there's some pretty solid cooking instructions on the product page: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00K69ZK46

I usually do 1 packet per person/then add 12-16 ounce of liquid in a 50/50 water to beer ratio. Bonus on the loose noodles is you can make as little or as much as you need.

Do you have an instant pot? I have a couple of super easy go-to recipes (not-ramen) for feeding 2 people that take 10 minutes of prep and come out like you spent 4 hours cooking.

ive noticed that the asian market i sometimes shop at has some fresh-ish noodle packs in the freezer section. not dried. i think the ones i saw were udon noodles, but i would be unsurprised to find that they had ramen noodles too. something like that might be a decent alternative to the dried stuff, though i havent tried it yet

Yep, Always keep your work phone and your personal phone separate. A few of my workmates have dual sim phones and it means that you can never really "Turn off" when your on a day off or leave- You've either got to put up with your phone ringing with work related stuff or turn off your phone and loose the personal side too.

Also, ANYTHING social media should be kept well, well away from your work life.

I did my good deed for the day. Helped someone thats really important to me and having a rough time get herself to the covid vaccination clinic to get her first jab, made a lunch date out of it cos we really haven't spent any time together for 7 or so months now after a falling out and have her second follow up appointment booked for the 25th with another lunch booked for then too. These two pieces of advice are extremely important.

I made the mistake early in my career to just use my work phone for everything. My employer paid for it and the subscription, and it was explicitly approved and allowed for personal use as well, since employees were taxed on it as a benefit provided by the employer (a telco/ISP). It would have been prohibitively complicated and annoying to reliably prove that the phones were only ever used strictly for business, so the easiest way was just to let employees use their phones for whatever. In the times of high roaming charges even within the EU, it was extremely practical for me that I didn't have to worry about roaming charges in Germany and Sweden etc.

Then I got a boss who insisted on calling at basically any time he wanted outside of work hours, expecting that whatever he called about would be handled and done by 9 the next morning. After that, I bought a strictly private phone with my own subscription and I have never given that phone number to any employer, only to very few colleagues that I trust to only call me in the most dire emergencies (or if we're hanging out in a not work-related context).

As for social media, LinkedIn is the "official me", it only has boring stuff about my job and skills, that's it. Everything else is closed off, locked down to be non-searchable to outsiders, and I use either a pseudonym or a very generic form of my real name, which takes me from genuinely uniquely identifiable to one out of a hundred thousand.

It absolutely baffles me to see the utter poo poo some people will post on Facebook, with their job title and employer clearly visible in their profile, yet somehow they face absolutely no consequences.

I have a cheap dial sim Android and when I'm not contactable I just turn off that SIM, it's real easy. Bonus of having it with me if I urgently need to use my phone and my personal SIM had no coverage I'll just turn it on for 5 minutes.

Also as that SIM slot doesn't do data I can do what I like on mine.

STR, why are you shitposting when you should be at work?

So the company I work for has mandatory COVID vaccine requirements. And apparently COVID just took out a huge swath of our distribution center for the region (likely a mix of Omicron Persei 8 and a few fake vaccine cards) - normally I'm showing up to work around 6:15-6:30, loading my truck, then heading out by 7:30. Late last night I got a text from the regional manager saying we'll be working today, just at ???? time. At 5:30, that turned into 7:30. At 6:30, that turned into a "we'll let you know.. but expect to work today". I don't like doing this on call crap without on call pay. :sigh: But I don't technically have a schedule in writing, it's just assumed we work from 6:30 until whenever we're done.

The smart bulbs in my bedroom are setup to start slowly lighting up about 20 minutes before my alarm clock goes off at 5:15 (kind of a sunrise effect), so needless to say I'm wide loving awake, I'd love to go back to bed. My market has been the one to get hosed any time there's issues at the DC, so I don't exactly have high hopes at the moment. I've already looked at the fleet manager app, and only one truck has made a trip out of the DC today (to another much larger market). The DC serves ~10 markets in 3 states..

Maybe this is what it'll take to get people to start wearing a drat mask at work.

Cripes, this. My current job gives us a monthly stipend to use for our phone bills ($50 - my monthly bill is $40). I'm getting REAAAAAAAAAAL sick of my phone blowing up all night with our group chat. Also, my phone has taken an absolute beating - it's a Oneplus 8T, but the (glass) back is smashed to hell now, screen is scratched up pretty bad... I bought it used with some scratches already, but seeing the back smashed really hurts. Been in a Spigen slim armor case as long as I've had it, but it gets dropped more than I'd like to admit. :sigh:

There's been talk of them providing dedicated work phones this or next month, only reason I haven't thrown one of my old phones on a 10GB plan. I still might, though.

I literally do a deep snoop on every single person I can in our company and block all people associated. If there happens to be a mutual friend, that friend of mine is now an acquaintance and doesn't get to see my shitposts by default. I even have a different account with my real name as a honeypot of sorts for them to THINK they got me.

This is hilarious as some of my best mates no longer even know me as my real name and put my social media name on their resumes as professional references.

One last thing - if work calls my personal phone, they get invoiced by my own company/entity an arbitrary number of billable hours depending on how much they disrupted my personal time and how long it takes for me to not be pissed off by them calling. It's usually a business days worth.

Remember folks. Your boss doesn't own you.

I obviously try to avoid it, but I can tell my boss to suck a male camel's dick (paraphrasing) right in front of his daughter who also works for the company, can yell at each other over the phone, when necessary, once again I try to avoid it but some times I have to, I can post whatever I want on fakebook, because I have a fake company name and can berate, or be berated by, him, the other boss or any other employee and not be particularly worried about losing my job.

The one time years ago that he called me about some work related poo poo on a Saturday evening while I was out getting loaded, I pretty much told him to piss off and call tomorrow.

I'm pretty militant about work/life separation. My employer gives us a monthly allowance for phone/internet, but I don't have work email/zoom/chat/anything on my phone. They have my number obviously and I tell the team i'm working with if it's an emergency to text me, but that very rarely happens and usually I know ahead of time that I'll need to work that weekend or whatever.

I got my booster last night, my arm is pretty sore and I'm a little achey but nothing compared to the 2nd shot that bowled me over for an entire day. Moderna here.

Hey chat thread, saw a post in a discord that I wanted to out here, because I thought it posed some interesting questions:

https://twitter.com/timkaine/status/1478357477158756352

How long can a car idle before it runs out of gas? Google is suggesting 19 hours really isn't out of the question, which surprises me.

What about keeping the car charged over that period of time, in cold weather, with the heater running? I know a car "should" charge at idle but what if it's an already marginal charge with a weak alternator, corroded terminals, etc etc.

Yeesh, I really wouldn't want to find out if my car could become a cold weather survival shelter for 19 hours.

Powershift
Nov 23, 2009

At idle, a modern car wouldn't use more than about 0.5 liter/hour. That's a ford escape so probably a 1.5 or 1.6 liter engine with light modern oil, direct injection and a 59 liter tank, on a full tank it could probably idle for around 5 days. possibly more.

Cars heat the interior with waste heat from the engine. Running the heater doesn't use any more energy than just running the blower motor that you wouldn't be running full blast around 0*c. If you aren't having to boost your car every morning, the charging system can obviously handle whatever for as long as the engine is running. Unless if course you've got a modern V8 BMW.

Work used to pay me 4 hours for a call-out on top of any time I actually spent traveling and working, then a previous manager called me in a panic one Saturday night and asked me to be in Sunday then later cancelled it without telling me so I got up super early and traveled 35 minutes each way to find out there was no work to do and he refused to pay me more than the time I was at site. So now my work SIM gets shut off when I finish work on Friday, gently caress you Phil.

Now we've got a new time card system that is so inflexible they wouldn't be able to pay us the four hours so some of the other engineers are gradually realising they're being fisted and doing the same.

I have my facebook pretty well locked down. I also have seen my "memories" pop up enough that I have gone through and deleted the most cringe/bad postings. I really have fixed the social media dilemma by simply posting barely at all. I make maybe 8 posts a year. Quality over quantity. I don't need to put my whole stream of consciousness on display including my own opinions. I will comment plenty in groups, friends postings, etc. I have learned well enough before social media what should be shared and what should not be shared via the internet. I credit Something Awful for teaching me about that. I recently started an instagram and have kept it open for the time being but again, I opened that after really deciding what kinds of things I want to share on the internet. I don't do twitter. I don't want to hide who I am and try to juggle multiple profiles or lists or anything like that. Social media barely worth the effort as it is. I try my best to not be an rear end in a top hat and be as authentic as I can. I accept that it can be a great tool for communication and keeping up with people I normally wouldn't see or hear from often. I am using Facebook less and less which is encouraging.

Regarding work/life and social media, I basically just don't post on social media any more. I'll go look at it if someone mentions me and I get a notification, comment LOL or something, then leave. I got tired of learning how many of my friends and family were right-wing non-thinking chuds during the last election.
I have Teams and work email on my personal phone, but I completely ignore it outside of work hours (they don't pay for my phone,) and I get no pressure to do otherwise. My coworkers are a mixed bag on that - some have two phones, some let work pay for their personal phone. I'm hourly - if I do something outside of work hours, I have to put it on my timesheet. Hell, up until 12/1, I was a contractor and *couldn't* work outside hours without prior approval, which suited me fine.
