What happened to the comedy skits on albums? I need some jokes! My favorite one that I remember was Chamillionaire had a comedian making prank calls, like 2 or 3 of them on each album:

Where did skits go? Are they still around? I haven't stumbled across any in recent years other than Eminem's new stuff, which mostly seems to include skits because his huge hit albums did.

skits are good on project/concept albums, bad on albums with disparate/disconnected songs. imo

L'Orange and Mr. Lif released a record called The Life and Death of Scenery which is a concept album about a world where art has been made illegal and it has the most stunning skits sprinkled throughout.

He's no Longmont Potion Castle, who regularly has people scream about how they're going to kill him and the most it makes him do is chuckle.

That and $20 sack pyramid will always be the two GOAT rap skits but I've also got a real fondness for the sound collage/cartoon samples that MF DOOM uses on his albums. Really helps round out the character and his world and apart from the big chunk of em in the middle of mm...food they're not too intrusive and usually improve the song they're on.

I'm bizarre

Doggystyle's set a mood. When I was young, it felt like you were at a party and it was cool, even if it was just in your room alone. I loved that they carried it on from Chronic. Not sure if it would fly today though. CDs aren't really a thing, it seems everything is just single put together.
