I like Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, on Prime, more than I thought I would. It's about magic re-appearing in England during the 19th century, and the costumes worn in the process. It is, even after almost ruining itself instantly when it introduced that character in episode 2, ringing almost none of my "this is stupid as hell" alarms.

I think the show's great. Shame the guy's follow up adaptation of The War Of The Worlds was so bad.

So did that actually end the way Lynch intended it to? I kept waiting for more.

I love the book so was pretty hesitant about the miniseries, but the wife and I both liked it a lot.

Yup Lynch seemed to have total creative control. The ending really stays with you. There's a lot there.

Just finished Last One Laughing UK and I haven’t laughed that hard in ages. Putting Bob Mortimer and Richard Ayoade in a room together is like Godzilla vs Mothra. It’s cruel.

Can be found on Prime if ya keen.

If there's anything the UK does better than the US in television, it's game shows/comedy panels/talk shows. I haven't seen Last One Laughing but I'm thinking of stuff like QI, Would I Lie To You, Taskmaster, 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown, etc. I usually have a hearty LOL at least once every time I watch a random episode of any of those.

Yeah it’s their bread and butter. Jimmy Carr hosts this one, which is why it’s really well done.

I feel like Dropout has the potential, but not the reach.

It feels like podcasts occupy that niche in the US, but I can see those worlds eventually merging.

I’ll be honest, the first episode of the new Black Mirror being “what if companies constantly increasing subscription prices while removing features was BAD” loses its bite a bit when it’s still airing on NETFLIX.

Yeah Outlaw King is great. The spiritual sequel of Braveheart with 20% less cheesiness and a lead with a much more believable Scottish accent. Chris Pine is legit good in it, as is Stephen Dillane as a less comic book but still evil version of Longshanks.

E: if you liked Outlaw / King and haven't seen The King (Chalamet and Joel Edgerton), I highly recommend it. For a couple years there, Netflix was churning out some medieval masterpieces.

I really enjoyed The King also on the basis of them making a legitimate effort in making all the costuming and combat look and feel historically authentic. There's an extended duel between two guys in full plate armor and you can really feel the difficulty, exhaustion, and awkwardness that comes from two guys trying to stab one another while wearing near stab-proof suits.

Black Mirror new season proper watch order is 5, 6, 3, 4, 1, 2

This frontloads the best performance of the season, alternates the sad episodes with the wackier ones, and ends your viewing experience on something that won't make you quite want to die

Me and the wife have only watched the first one as it was so goddamn depressing it's put her off a bit. Is that the lowest it gets or should we skip any of the others?!

I like Chris Pine, if you haven't seen Dungeons and Dragons: Whatever the Second Part of the Title Is, you should watch it, I think that's on Netflix too

I guess The King is next, then whatever else they have with swords and rubber horses. Man they stabbed the poo poo out of some horses in Outlaw King

Yeah it's pretty great. And it amuses me to no end that one of the D&D geeks from Freaks & Geeks went on to direct a D&D movie.

That's the most crushingly depressing of them all, 5 is just as sad but in more of an inspiring and beautiful way. To get over 1 I would watch 2 or 6. It really is the best season in years, as a whole.

The D&D movie was such a pleasant surprise. Some of the previews made me worry that it might be an insincere ironic quipfest, but instead it was actually earnest and funny and just a plain good time.

BRRREADSTOOORRM!
I'll never not laugh at the Xenk role originally written as Drizzt because Hasbro kept leaning on the studio to include him. The only thing that made them relent was the social media scrutiny on black face and a poor reaction to Chang dressed as a drow on the Community episode.

Big second. Made me feel like I would give up after one minute in a medieval duel. Death seems strongly preferable to wrestling someone in that God awful armor.

I recommend watching the callister episodes (season 4, episode 1) and (season 7, episode 6) back to back to make the most of the finale.
