Hello! I'm new here and I don't know a lot of the etiquette so apologies in advance for any breaches. :3:

---

Recently, I built this little mini room from a kit:

https://i.imgur.com/OIgWJjH.mp4

https://i.imgur.com/mMfTxMN.mp4

and it was suggested that yobs may have fun stuff to suggest I add, and I liked the idea of a collaborative art project like this. :)
So, here is the next kit I'm making:

Everything can be changed or added to, but the overall structure will remain the same. I will do my best to incorporate all suggestions within my artistic ability and materials available!

This is EXTREMELY cool! I've looked at little kits on Amazon, I think when I have big space again I would love to put a few together. I really enjoy gunpla / gundam building and this is like that but less weeby, but somehow far nerdier!

Also FIRST POST IN A FIRST POST THREAD! I think my day is looking up!

I only have excellent ideas
Are these fun? Are they super hard? I saw one of a little crowded bookstore that I thought looked cute, but I wasn't sure if I'd like it.

Honestly the most difficult part of them is maintaining your patience, sometimes. To make that easier I recommend getting a couple of things ahead of time:
- Good multi-purpose craft glue. Honestly, even the cheapest PVA would be much better than the glue that comes in the kit.
- Needle-nosed pliers (required for a lot of these things but doesn't come)
- A range of craft clamps. I just use bulldog clips (for things that need to be clamped firmly and/or kept off of surfaces) and alligator clips for stuff that just needs to be held together.
- a good cutting mat. This could be anything from a kitchen cutting board to one of those self-healing craft mats depending on your budget/general investment in crafts long-term. :>

Otherwise the instructions are usually quite good (they do appear to be translated, though, so sometimes there's weird phrasing/missed steps, but I've never encountered a problem in them I couldn't really logic around.) and the process is really chill and nice. Great for putting on some music and losing yourself for a couple of hours every now and then :) I highly recommend getting it if it catches your eye, it's definitely worth! :D

drat that all sounds good. Me and my wife are both pretty crafty but without a lot of overlap in what crafts we do, and we've been trying to think of a fun cold weather craft project we can do together during the long New England winter, and these might be the thing.

What's the story with Carl? He is supposed to sell fruit, but has carrots out, which I think is a vegetable.

All joking aside these are super cute and kind of trippy to me, I had never heard of this. Most of the products are paper? In that little clip it appears the mirror is real reflective mirror material. The next logical step to me is getting figurines of appropriate scale to pose in the scenes.

Maybe we can get some crossover with the haunted house thread. Do you think you could cook up some broken, melted, or disfigured clocks?

Carl is a person of contradictions, I don't think we'll ever truly understand them.

So it's a combination of laser-cut panels, beads, wires, paper cutouts, and a whole bunch of other stuff

The mirror is indeed a tiny, reflective mirror! I had a look and the 'mirror' part seems to be a reflective paint or foil with a thin veneer of plastic over the reflective side. I accidentally rubbed the silver off from the back the first time I made the mirror and had to make it again, unfortunately. I actually have a doll-making book and I'm considering trying my hand at it at some point! It's pretty involved but I'm excited to give it a go :)

I can definitely give some melty clocks a go! Let's get spooky! :ghost:

I'm just making this from a kit, so just imagining someone doing this from scratch and fabricating all of the little pieces involved and planning how they all go together... That is some incredible skill and patience!
