Like in the episode For the Uniform I did not expect Sisko to just go "hmm alright, guess I gotta get more Javert on Eddington's rear end" then poison an entire planet :psyduck:

That whole 'reveal' is a bit funny because it's an absolute asspull but it DOES work with a lot of aspects of the character.

Speaking of his pre-DS9 work, in 1992 Combs starred in a Doctor Strange ripoff called Doctor Mordrid, which was riffed in a recent (season 13) episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000.

The movie isn't nearly as bad as most MST fodder, which is almost entirely thanks to Jeffrey Combs. He brought actual acting chops to what would otherwise be a totally forgettable B movie.

I think that episode is the first (only?) time we see Latinum outside its gold shell.

And it always made the engineer in me twitch because, obviously, it has to be pressed in gold to prevent it from reacting to anything, and here we had Morn just carrying it around in one of his stomachs to be regurgitated on command. :argh:

They keep it in gold to store it because Latinum will diffuse and through metals less dense than gold as well as react with other metals, so they press it into bricks of worthless gold. Mourn's stomach is not metal so it can store a cups worth, but they do say in episode that it is why he lost all of his hair because of the metal poisoning him over time.

yeah ive always taken it as like, an inverted mercury amalgam in gold processing, where now its the toxic quicksilver as the hugely economically important material and the gold functionally waste so that it is gathered in one spot

When that episode focuses on the other mutants it's good fun. When it focuses on Julian trying to date his patient and pushing way way way past her comfort boundaries it becomes cringe. O'Brien was half right when he summarized that there's nothing wrong with not wanting to be alone. What he should have done is follow that up with "but you were being a huge idiot creep, Julian."

Yes Sir, I Can Boogie
So, admittedly, I fell off with the updates, and I'm sorry about that.

My best friend and I are gearing up for the final 5 episodes or so. It's been such a wild ride. It broke my heart when Nog lost his leg, which was only ever brought up again in the next episode and of course when Jadzia died, but I kinda knew it was coming. My friend hated Ezri when she got introduced the first time he saw it, but I'm really impressed with how well she's been able to gel with the cast in such a short amount of time.

The one thing that's felt a little  to me was Odo's multi-season unrequited love for Kira that ended in them suddenly becoming a couple despite him betraying everyone just a few episodes prior. I felt like there was no lead-up on her end at all.

As we head into the final stretch, I'm loving Kai Winn's plotline, and I wish that the final arc development had more time to breathe. But I'm extremely here for it.

I'm really digging it, and the final season has been spectacular so far. I'm definitely looking forward to a rewatch because there's so much subtlety that I know I didn't catch the first time around.

Y'all I really truly hate to say it, but I think I might like DS9 more than Babylon 5 (which was the last series I blind watched), if only because Babylon 5 was so hamstrung by the repeated is-it-canceled-or-not moments.

Watch Voyager simultaneously with the Battlestar Galactica remake and try to see exactly where Ronald D. Moore starts taking the piss out of Star Trek.

You might not be surprised to hear that the actors were pretty pissed about this too, especially when a big part of it got resolved off-screen. Apparently they extracted a promise from the writers they'd never do that with major character points again.

While ahead of its time in a lot of ways, DS9 is still very 90s with its treatment of gender politics and romance for the most part.

Have you seen Star Trek The Animated Series? It's a lot more interesting than you'd think, though the animation is definitely worth mocking. Great for memes, though.

The best scene in the Odo/Kira romance is the one where Quark comes over to Odo's apartment in the middle of the night and tells him to grow the gently caress up.

Give The Orville a try. It starts out with the wacky humor dial turned up a little too high, but it quickly finds its footing and gets surprisingly good.

Nah, unfortunately that episode also contains the stupid growing popsicle rock which was dumb and the entire B plot about Nog wanting to join Starfleet is far more compelling.

Best Odo romance scene is when the episode (or commercial break) fades back in and the female changeling woman is in Odo's room and just apropos of nothing goes "so THAT'S how solids mate, thanks for that experience Odo" and it's like uhh say what now
