The explorers ranged further east, spurred on by the nebulous hope of the fabled Trial. They weren’t sure what they’d been expecting, but it wasn’t this. A young lady, floating in the air, turning slowly like a top in a field of flowers. She squealed in delight as they approached, hovering towards Blemp and squishing his furry cheeks. “At last! I was told I would be met by Brave Knights Three, which must surely be your party! I have a grave mission, granted to me by the ancients on high - and only you three might be my means of success!” The trio, enraptured by her beauty, nodded and assured her they would do what they could to help.

“I knew you would. There will be peril, I fear, but I am sure you are up to the challenge!” Again, they assured her they were.

“I need you to escort me through terrible dangers and lands uncertain to a wondrous tower to the west of here.”

O…kay. The trio exchanged a look, but did as they were bidden.

And so the trio went, escorting their precious charge. Estella regailed them with tales about the dangers and treacheries to be found in the lands of Orokos, about the vile Dungeons and terrifying Bosses they might encounter. She also made them aware of a large settlement ‘just east of Dirthole - you can’t miss its splendour!’ and suggested that they visit should they want to try the local delicacy. She suggested that Bowman have his wound looked at by a trained priest, for ‘its cure is beyond even my vast powers’.

She, in fact, talked the whole time. She was so distracting that Eeby wandered too close to the fence as they passed by the Well-Characterized Cube and was briefly overcome by madness until Yuuki threw a rock at him. Besides that one hiccup, the ‘escort’ went perfectly well, and Estella wept with joy as the tower came into view. ‘At last! The fastness of my blessed father!”

She soared up and into the tower and, after a moment, the Mean Wizard appeared. He grunted, then tossed an Obsidian Marble down to Bowman. “Here. Thanks. Go away.”

Their first Treasure! Finally, they were moving up in the world! Onwards!

Heading north from the tower and toying with their new Treasure, the trio came upon a great fortress surrounded by tombstones. It looked very spooky, and the gate swung open in a creepy breeze. Naturally, they went inside. To their great surprise, the gates slammed shut and barred! Skeletons and ghouls rose from the ruined stones of the fortress, and there was a terrible fracas!

This was not, however, their first skeleton rodeo. Armed with their skills and supported by the Obsidian Marble (which, frankly, just shed some cool light and didn’t do much to help), the trio vanquished the hordes and ripped out the beating marble heart at the center of the keep. All at once, the fog of death cleared and the undead dropped back into the dust.

A pleasant enough afternoon.

Leaving behind the dread fortress, the trio proceeded North to the banks of a great river. A ferryman stood nearby, looking grim and gristly as the undead they’d just slain. But he greeted them warmly enough (really, more warmly than most Orokans they’d met), and offered them a ride. Having nothing in particular else to do, they hopped aboard and took a trip down the Moon Fiend River!

This Special, like most of them, will require the heroes to roll a plain d6 per character and generate a map feature with them, the name also generated from the same tables as other stuff. This particular Special operates like so, proceeding off the first direction listed in the quest:

Heading off north, they relaxed on the barge. It wasn’t clean or large, but it also wasn’t walking; Blemp had some tiny legs, man. Bowman engaged the ferryman in conversation. Why, for instance, was it called Moon Fiend River? Simple enough - legend had it a great beast had fallen from the moon in ages past and its corpse had rotted away over time, leaving behind this river. Was it true? Who knows! Not the ferryman, apparently. Eastward, the river wended, until it came to a curling bank that forced them to turn… and then keep turning, until they found themselves in the center of a spiraling bank. Clearly not a natural formation - maybe there was something to the man’s story…

The ferryman let them off with a gracious bow, then told them that they could come and visit any time and come and see the sights!

After a quick snack in the forest, they opted to take the ferryman up on his offer. He was delighted to have the company on the way back, and the trio shared more stories of their home country. Well, Bowman and Blemp did. Eeby just sort of smiled and nodded, content to listen and watch.

This was a business trip, however, and they had a particular destination in mind. On their travels looking south past a coniferous forest, they had spotted a group of strange figures training in the mists. They looked like Ninjas, but surely they wouldn’t be this far from the far west of Haum? What could the dreadful assassins possibly be doing here in this deep forest? It was up to them to find out!

Creeping through the dense forest, the trio drew as close as they dared to the warriors. They were sparring in a clearing, silent as stalking wolves, only the soft shushing of their footsteps as they danced in the the fog. Some clashed in mock combat, others practiced their skills against the archery targets, and still others were loading crates with… something. The explorers dared not draw attention to themselves, but this seemed like rather serious business that someone should know about.

And then, all of a sudden, as though spooked, they all ran away, fleeing southeast, leaving only traces of their presence behind. Despite their coincidental exit, the trio agreed that the ninjas left of their own accord - their own stealthy investigation had been excellent. A mystery, then - and to those who remain, go the spoils! Eeby whistled through ill-fitting lips as he spied a Treasure; hefting his new Green Bo-Hiya, a slow grin spread across his face.
