Yeah they're taking him to arb to try and get his salary as low as possible so he's a more attractive trade piece at the deadline. Just fuckin' if the last man standing on from the WS core is Heyward.

Which means they're either teaching him how to play the outfield in the majors or sending him or Kim to the bench. Either way, Hosmer'll play.

I don't know how much I agree with this necessarily, largely because we don't really know what Witt is yet for sure

But I do agree the Royals have a weird as hell thing going on there. You could still if you were very dumb plug Merrifield into short in a pinch if you had to as well. A whole lot of wacky sub situations come to mind that won't ever happen.

edit - i'm playing through a march to october on the show with the royals right now and it is legitimately useful to have a position-agnostic infield

There are so many fun young players to watch out for this year. I feel like I say that every year, and maybe it’s just that the world is so hosed now, but I can’t wait to just watch some baseball and watch some young future stars develop.

Ke’Bryan Hayes is absolutely electric and is someone you can build a franchise around. Great signing for the Pirates but still can’t build up goodwill for me when it comes to Nutting and Cherington. Too far gone, Nutting needs to sell the team and also die in a fire.

I also can’t wait to go to some Royals games this year and watch Witt ball out. They’re going to have a fun lineup, will probably lose a lot of games 9-7 because their pitching is a goddamn joke.

Unless things changed in the new CBA, the Angels have a week to trade him or put him on waivers. No one's going to claim him, so after he clears waivers, he's a FA. LA owes him his $28 million salary, minus anything he gets paid by another team.

Ahhh thanks! So for him, it's less about what he gets paid by his new team, and more about fit/playing time.

Finally catching up with the baseball thread and all the offseason signings and stuff. Giants had a quiet offseason, I guess, but I'm happy we brought back Wood and Disco. I never believed in Carlos Rodon, I saw too many games where he was wild as hell, but can't argue that he was fantastic last year. Signing Joc is good for trolling Dodgers fans if nothing else.
Alex Wood is a bigger troll imo, Joc is a pretty limited platoon player until he OPS's 1.000 against LA in the NLDS
