Eh, based on the numbers it was what, 7/213ish? I'm gonna bet Judge is looking at the $300M+ megadeals that got thrown around the past couple offseasons and figures he can get that in FA. TIL that Judge is 29 though, I thought he was a lot younger for some reason. Gonna be hard for him to find a contract for more than 7 years if that's the sticking point for him.

He is 30, who is giving him a 10 year deal? 7 for 225 is a lot for a guy with his injury history and more than I expected them to offer to be quite honest

I don't disagree with taking him out considering he has been nursing an elbow injury for the better part of at least the last 7 (?) months

You can let him go batter to batter, to a point anyway, but first sign of trouble you gotta run full speed to the mound and get him out of there

They had a shortened spring training due to the lockout, so his pitch count isn't built up. How many pitches do you really want him throwing in his first start of the season after he couldn't even pitch in the playoffs because of an elbow injury

Not to defend Bauer, although this is going to read it that way I guess, but he is right for appealing that. Domingo German beat his wife at a team or league, I forget which, event in front of other people and "only" got 81 games

e: he slapped his GF at CC Sabathias event and then went after her again when they got home

I'm not defending him. My point was to say it's obvious he should appeal it because of the precedent, as much as people would like him to just go away it isn't going to be quite that simple

Outside of outright banning someone this is double the length of the longest suspension they've ever handed out for a player. A-Rod was on what felt like strike four of steroid issues and got hit for a year. I'd make the argument that other people got off easy more than Bauer is getting the short end of the stick, but they haven't changed their DV policy so all we have to go on is what happened before to other players. The closest thing I can really think of is Felipe Vazquez but he's in jail and I don't think ever had any official reprimand by MLB?

Yeah no way he'd win. Kaepernick had a hard loving time getting people to believe he was being openly blackballed and he didn't even do anything illegal. He got a settlement from the league but it took years and they more or less stalled out his career in the process

Chapman and Osuna have unfortunately proven that front offices don’t even think twice about taking PR hits for abusive pieces of poo poo so long as they’re still effective on the field. If Bauer stays healthy during the suspension some team will absolutely sign him to some kind of contract when he returns and just put out the usual meaningless lip service press statement to try and convince people they give a poo poo.

Nothing would make me happier than seeing this motherfucker’s career go down in flames permanently because of this, but the realist in me knows he’ll be back at some point.

I don't think he's going to play again, he has too much baggage. Even if nothing comes out of the new accusation that should be the end

I think the Rays are, you know, really impressive, from a baseball operations standpoint. An aesthetic nightmare, from their roster construction to their stadium to their uniforms*, but you can't argue with the success. Super weird franchise.

It does seem like they are going to sell out this series against the Yankees; it'll be interesting to see if the crowd is overwhelmingly Yankees fans or just the regular half-and-half.

The Rays cry poverty at any chance they can and frame all of their cut throat decisions around the illusion they are a poor small market team and can't be expected to spend money while also being owned by a near billionaire who is quite frankly just a cheap rear end and likes collecting revenue sharing checks.

I don't have anything against being cutthroat either, but just do it and own up to it. Don't try and hide behind the myth that you are broke, you are just cheap
