Wouldn't an immensely over-stimulating house designed to stress the occupants decrease their projected lifespan drastically?

It didn't actually work, sorry if that was unclear. They built it in 2008 and then one died in 2010 and the other in 2014.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shusaku_Arakawa#Later_life

quote:

Bioslceave House (Lifespan Extending Villa) (2000–2008) in East Hampton, New York encapsulates the philosophies Arakawa and Gins shared toward human mortality. The house's form is characterized by its asymmetrical, undulating appearance whose interior and exterior walls are each painted in over four dozen shades of vibrant hues. Ceilings and entranceways extend across varying directions and heights, either along straightened or curved edges. Similarly, windows and light switches are strewn along the walls at inconsistent heights. The floors are designed from hardened soil with rounded bumps atop their surfaces that slope at both slight and steep inclines; freestanding poles are included in multiple rooms to assist occupants to maintain their physical balance.[35] Arakawa and Gins firmly believed it was integral for domestic environments to be constructed in layouts that rendered residents with a sense of instability and discomfort.[36] They argued physical passivity and comfort allows the human body to deteriorate and the solution to reverse one's mortality is to reside in a home that encourages continual bodily movement and reorientation, which is evident in the Bioscleave House's lack of smooth floors and high/low placement of windows.[37][38]

Anybody remember the Vegas Swinger Vault? 16,936 square feet ... of which 2,300 was a lovely Vegas mission style one-bedroom and the remainder was an underground swinger pad with four bedrooms, artificial palm trees covering the support columns, and a hot tub shaped like a penis.

The fact that it appears to have been built for that specific fridge but also about a foot too tall is a really nice touch.

I was about to ask what a "saint chamber" is, but that picture cleared it up perfectly. :magical:

Though I gotta admit, having an underground tunnel connecting your two buildings is kind of baller in a "childhood dream fulfillment" way.

Since I was a kid I've always wanted to have a house with a secret room. Not necessarily inaccessible like a panic room or something, just like a very private library/office

Now of course I would just like to own a home at all

Is this... A prayer rug? If there wasn't so much idolatry going on I'd obviously assume sex prop but I'm this case I don't know. There's a smaller version in the man cave too

At first you think, "Hey, maybe they just took the triangle rule for kitchens too literally," but no, the alcove is actually facing away from the sink and oven.

Big sunspace, trombe wall running through the center of the building, and more sliding glass doors than you can shake a stick at! And a beautiful, vintage heating system to compliment the passive solar array that was... attempted... here.
