These are houses built to impress, not to be lived in. when looking at real estate listings, you always have to consider staging. for a big expensive house where the agents commission on sale will be tens of thousands of dollars, it makes financial sense to move in a bunch of furniture so that the house looks lived in and not totally empty. a residence completely empty of house stuff looks less inviting, but this is less of a problem when the residence is an apartment for rent or something which will sell quickly anyway versus the decision to buy a big expensive house that may linger on the market - the sales trick is to fill it with furniture to 'stage' it as one would stage a theatrical play one minor thing when looking at real estate listings as a hobby is when you notice a problem with the listing itself. usually this means that the realtor's photography is terrible, or when the staging is weird - just a random assortment of furniture which was done because that is what the agent had at hand, or the house was filled hastily with lightweight or mismatched furniture. things to keep an eye out for are just a jumbled assortment of armchairs, wicker furniture indoors, That One Eames Chair, a shelf filled with little sculptures and vases and stuff but no pictures of people, and so on. "is this house the residence of undercover aliens, or is it just staged poorly?" is a viable question when hunting for weird houses on zillow the house totally filled with junk (and do they have a loving bobcat for a pet?) is more on the "space aliens" side of the spectrum, what the gently caress e: here's an example of poor staging, notice that most of the house is empty but for some rooms we decided to put a chair or a dining set in there to fill a little space. or the very telling two (2) bottles of wine on a rack https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/7112-State-Road-1-Spencerville-IN-46788/112577894_zpid/ and here's an example of dogshit photography https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/104-Meadowbrook-Ln-Saint-Marys-OH-45885/51309412_zpid/ Mr. Fall Down Terror has a new favorite as of 15:30 on Apr 25, 2022 |

Blue Footed Booby posted:Gotta say, I've never seen a property actually for sale listed with "Price Unknown." its a foreclosure. whoever owns the place can't afford the mortgage or taxes and it is being auctioned off. there is no price because whoever took the title on lack of payment is auctioning the house off to see how much they can get for it. normally, when a house is voluntarily listed the seller sets an asking price as a target. there are no pictures of the interior because the resident refused to allow anyone inside. the price is going to be determined by the buyer making a guess as to how much they can sell the house for, minus the cost of evicting the current resident and dealing with whatever repairs and such may be necessary when you don't know what the inside looks like let alone what condition it is in, because you can't get the structure inspected it happens sometimes, whenever you see something like "house is occupied" or "resident on property" that usually means a foreclosure, and "we did not want to fight the angry person inside this house to take pictures"
