Im a business owner. We sell solar panels. I paid a software developer to create a docusign replacement for me. There were features of docusign I wanted to change, and some features that were missing. now Im thinking I could monatize this platform I built but I have questions about some of the considerations Who has the rights to the platform. Myself who commissioned the work? does the developer have a claim on the platform? Theres paperwork invoices for the payments. but no contract outlining ownership

Try talking to a lawyer lol. "Platform" can mean anything. If it consists of or includes copyrightable works then, without written assignment of copyright to you, the developer still owns the copyright, at least that's my understanding. I'm just an internet stranger though, not a lawyer that actually knows what they're talking about.
