[ASK] me about OS/2 Warp
my j bass has some pretty good knobs

the chicken head is whats called a varitone control. it replaces the standard tone pot and instead of shorting the signal through a potentiometer to ground, it's a six position switch that directly connects one of five caps (or nothing in the last position) for a sharper high end rolloff that actually gets a little honky resonance peak at diff frequencies depending on what setting (it makes an LC tank circuit with the inductance of the pickups)

then the neck's volume control is a pull pot that puts the pickups in series or parallel, and the bridge's volume control is a pull pot that switches the phase of that pickup. you can get like 80 different sounds out of this thing with those controls

lmao

also seeing as how we just got over the honky holiday of thanksgiving, i'll post about a real black mesa.

there's a lone mesa in the san ildefonso pueblo in new mexico called black mesa. it's near los alamos, which is located on the mesas of the pajarito plateau to the west, which are at the base of the jemez mountains, and are all formed from soft volcanic rock from the massive extinct volcano of the valles caldera.

the spanish conquered the area in 1591, and almost 100 years later the pueblo peoples rose up and drove the spaniards from their land during the pueblo revolt. the spanish eventually came back after more than a decade of being gone. black mesa was the site of the san ildefonso people's stand against the spanish, where they withstood a months long siege from the spaniards.

here's an article that briefly overviews the revolt and black mesa: https://www.archaeology.org/issues/249-1703/features/5301-new-mexico-pueblo-revolt

and as an aside, two of the details in the article are fascinating to me. first, the pueblo revolt was organized by the different groups in the area using knotted ropes which counted down to the day where they would attack the spanish. second, the settlements constructed by the pueblo people after the revolt were often made on defensible mountaintops (duh) and had a dual social structure (moieties) with dual plazas.

this sounds very similar to some aspects of andean pre-columbian culture. the incas were known to keep detailed records on knotted cords, known as quipu. second, moieties were a common social structure in andean peoples in pre-columbian times. probably nothing to do with each other, but it's funny how things rhyme sometimes.
