nah it's just poorly expressed for writing; it makes sense if you say it out loud. it's trying to say "why is it that when you look at a smartphone, you look smart, but when i look at one, i look like im trying to look smart?" "how come smartphones make YOU smarter looking and ME tryna look smart?" is absolutely a way it would've been said where i grew up. but the dialect - especially if you drop emphasis - doesn't translate well to text
