Five Seekers for my IW done. Sergeant still needs a name, haven't figured one out yet. Probably all the seekers I ever build unless these guys have an incredible showing, but I've heard good things about even "just" five guys.

I couldn't figure out what the Seekers would have for a shoulder symbol, so I went for a simple crosshair design:

Group shot:

The mistakes are visible and commonplace, and that's okay. I'm just glad to have five guys done and sealed. On to the next batch (of tacticals, who I'll have to make more bases for).

You were dreaming. We're still missing the Alpha Legion and Raven Guard. Here's all the WarCom announcement articles in order by date, because I don't value my time:

Imperial Fists
Sons of Horus
Dark Angels
Iron Warriors
White Scars
Space Wolves
World Eaters
Death Guard
Blood Angels
Night Lords
Iron Hands
Ultramarines
Thousand Sons
Salamanders
Word Bearers

It seems like they've been doing them in sort of Legion order with a bunch of exceptions, some of which make sense -- sure, put the Imperial Fists and Sons of Horus at the beginning of the list, they're Heresy 2nd Edition's poster-boys -- and most of which don't. But they did save the XIX and XX Legions for last.

I really want to see what the new Raven Guard beakie helmets look like, so my prediction is tomorrow will be the jetbikes, then Alpha Legion upgrades next week and Exodus the week after that.

I think I get asked that every time I show my guys anywhere, lol. IW garrison got rescued by Blood Angels, pledged themselves to fight alongside the BA, took the red arm as a mark of loyalty. It's a good reason to paint something other than just metallics and black, too.

edit to not double post: Alpha Legion upgrades are up.

Tomorrow, doom!
But now, tea.
So I'm mad enough to actually be planning to start Solar Auxilia in 2023. Not an army just yet, just some guys to paint up and get the hang of. I've ordered the axe squad because I love the idea of angry guys in spacesuits with axes. I'll get the Veletaris with volkites when they come back in stock at FW.

The only sticking point is that I'm not fond of the helmets on the standard lasrifle section - I don't like the eyepieces, and I much prefer the welding-mask style helmets on the specialist squads. Does anyone have any experience with the models? They don't look terribly head-swappable but I'm willing to give it a try.

Figured out the difficulties I was having getting Tortuga models to assemble properly with the heavy weapons sprue. Turns out Tortuga makes their torsos about 1-2mm too wide compared to MkVI, meaning that the new heavy weapons with both hands modeled on will never line up properly. The old heavy weapons would... if I had enough spare arms for them, which I don't (whole reason I went with the plastic HSS kit, along with "autocannons that won't warp"). Never came up elsewhere since I've been using them just for melee models so far, so no need for cross arms.

This is gonna suck rear end to fix, isn't it.

He's loading a round, it's bolt action and the chamber is open. The magazine is a tad small for the size of the gun but whatever, model is cool.

So I built some Tartaros Terminators. Reasonably happy with the poses, except maybe for the guy on the left in the second picture.

Also managed to make them slightly taller than the tallest MkVI and my upscaled MkIIIs...

...which I consider an accomplishment considering how weirdly short Tartaros Terminators are, as I've looked at before:

The trick seems to involve being really particular about how you seat the legs into the torso; the Tartaros Terminator kit has a really weird torso ball joint (and another really weird neck ball joint), and if you try to set the legs and torso the way that seem obvious, with maximum surface contact, it'll look really hunched over and the abdomen will look really compressed. What I did here was set the torso as far back as I could on the legs and sort of balance the front lower rim of the torso piece against the front upper rim of the leg piece, it adds maybe a half-milimeter to a milimeter of height (depending on which legs you're using), which really helps. Then it's just a matter of making sure the head is posed so the dude doesn't look like he's leaning back.

But all this is boring; everyone's seen unpainted plastic Tartaros Terminators before. The reason why I'm posting this is because a question occurred to me. I've considered magnetized Terminator arms before but rejected it because of the trouble of securing extra shoulder pads (none of the 3D printed or shapeways versions look quite right to me), but actually assembling these guys, it looks like you could glue the pauldrons directly to the torso and then leave the arms unconnected to them and stuck on the torso directly. Has anyone tried this? Is this, like, the normal way of magnetizing Tartaros Terminator arms and I just didn't know?

(Not sure how it'd work with Cataphractii arms, they have that weird double pauldron assembly....)

Edit: WELP. So much for my poses.

This is too interesting not to test.

Got it in one. Works on both variants. If ya get the shoulders on right, Cataphractii arms fit just fine on Tartaros, too. You can see some on my Command Squad, second from the right.

Oh, hey, neat.

I guess I'll have to build some Cataphractii in tandem with this for purposes of getting the magnet placement correct.

All magnetized. I think I'm going to wait to glue the pauldrons on until I've got some magnetized Cataphractii arms so I can make sure they'll also fit under 'em.
