Stronglifts is a solid program for beginners. I went from squatting 125 to 225 in a little longer than 2 months. It could stand to be improved though, it involves a lot of squats, can get monotonous, and doesn't quite hit enough areas. I switched to GZCLP; here's a good infographic that describes it - https://saynotobroscience.com/gzclp-infographic/

The progression is really quite easy once you get into it, and it covers a lot of compound lifts. Also does a good job of improving both work capacity and heavy lifting.

the discover is great cause you get cashback and if you pay on time for only 6 months you get your deposit back

when I started rebuilding my credit I got a $500 limit card with an annual $40 fee. I don’t think I’ve ever used it. I’m in the 800s now and I still have to pay that $40 because I don’t want to close the card because my average credit age will take a huge hit, especially since my student loans were paid off last year and my credit age dropped an insane amount. cool system!!!

I don’t miss the days when I’d argue with my bank about reordering debits so that a $2 charge at a gas station led to 2 or 3 overdrafts instead of 1 (not to mention not allowing you to just deny any debit attempt that would put you into negative), but I’m glad they finally passed laws to stop that poo poo, even though I never got any relief personally from it

yeah pnc or national city i forget who actually precalculated those end-of-monthly debits and did the biggest one first if it'd overdraft you

PNC bought national city. I think almost all the big banks did that, the reasoning they gave was “well, you wouldn’t want your mortgage payment to not go through, would you?” which, ok, but then give me the option to opt out and do it in chronological order. they would not because the real reason is they want those fees. took a law around 2012 or so? to force chronological ordering iirc, and to allow you to opt out of overdraft coverage as well I believe

edit: may have some of this incorrect, looks like overdraft protection became opt in shortly after the 2008 crisis

also there’s a type of actual doctor that is not really. if you ever see a doc with the title D.O. instead of MD be very wary. Doctors of Osteopathy are a bullshit offshoot of an old discredited methodology that the AMA decided to make a deal with a long time ago and give them official titles but it’s based on an early 20th century quack and his practices. they’ve pivoted to claiming they take a holistic look at medicine (which is something real docs could be better about) but on the whole they come from crappier schools and a worse curriculum.

when i was a kid we had a pair of earmuffs that had a mic on the outside, and then it would cut out when it detected a gunshot. worked great, and you could crank the volume so you had amplified hearing when you were waiting for a deer to walk by that was circa 1993 and it owned

these turned out to be the best option for woodworking, you can turn the external mic up to what’s comfortable and then it compresses anything above like 90dB with 2ms to the max volume setting you’re on. for some reason (market size?) woodworker muffs tend to be passive from 24 - 30 suppression but there are very few active options that use compression - though there are lots of radio tuner versions. anyways, they are amazing for woodworking or anything intermittently loud.

i’m betting the reason airpods have an in-ear microphone is because noise cancelling as a concept Works really well but is very sensitive to calibration i.e very slight distance changes in the parameters. if you don’t cancel it completely you get a bit of the original signal and the inverse and they can add up. there’s probably a generic distance parameter and then they just adjust from the feedback. this is probably also why they have that nice sealed ear test. it’s extremely cool but the wild part is it’s working on ms level - which is a 100 microseconds which is a decent amount of time to process and adjust. especially when tuned, processors are really fast yeah

there’s a small trick to it I learned when I was young and a swimmer. you have to ever so slightly push out to create positive pressure. if doing it right you will have just a few bubbles escape from the outward pressure. some people do it naturally, some don’t. when doing an underwater flip I will forcibly push a little air out to keep from water going in my nose. I only realized it wasn’t fully natural bc my gf can’t do it either

Mostly if I do watch a newer movie in 4k it's viewed once and deleted, no storing multiple 50gb+ files if I can help it.

This is a good strategy. I do a modified version where I always look for 4k but unless it's a real showcase/visual stunner of a movie I have it set to only look for encodings that come in under like 14GB/hr. Then a separate quality filter for the Gimme the Best movies.

Less than half the movies survive on the drive after watching, too.

Absolutely love my LG C1. Last 2 tvs were value picks - a 42in 60hz 4k Vizio, then a 55in 60hz 4k Vizio, both under $1k - because there was a certain confluence of features I've been waiting for since like 2015. Last year's models were the first to hit those requirements without being insane $3k tvs. 120Hz, 4k, HDR, OLED, VRR, HDMI 2.1 on all ports - it's got everything I wanted, no compromises, and the price was solid. Set for the next 6 years at least.
