the alchemist cookbook. it seemed to me like there was so much peripheral stuff (some of which was clever/good), but little substance. the premise is interesting, and i feel a much better movie could be made about alchemy.

I recently watched Fight Club (1999) and here is my review:
It's like this: Imagine that the Halloween franchise is a truck convoy on the highway. As you pass each truck you get the driver's attention and make the universal arm signal for "honk your horn." And they do. But when you get to Halloween 5 you realize to your horror that there's no driver. The driver just put Halloween 5 on autopilot and jumped out of the truck because he was so ashamed to be driving Halloween 5. That's what it would be like if Halloween 5 was a truck convoy. The exact same analogy applies to Fight Club.

there are positive aspects to halloween 5 to be fair, like how it couldn't frighten a sensitive, small child (won't chase away audience), or how the plot can be easily followed by toddlers (won't chase away audience). we might not like it, but this is exactly the kind of introduction to horror that many people need
