I watched Children of Men! I hadn't seen it in ages and didn't really remember any of it, and it turns out it's somehow more depressing than Threads.

(I then watched Totoro to reset my sadbrain)

I haven't seen it in ages, but it was a well made movie. As a person who doesn't have children though, I felt the premise of complete societal collapse because humans stopped being able to have kids a bit of a stretch.

The book was a lot more hedonistic and focused on both the youngest generation and the weird poo poo people did without kids (like elaborate baptism rituals for baby animals).

Yeah it's kind of funny how the one central "what if" thought experiment fell so flat. Like, all the elements are there. There was An Event. Civilization is at an end. A child appears, who is The Key To Salvation. One Man must protect the child and Deliver Them. Waterworld, Last of Us, the Bible, it's a pretty well established trope to build a good story on. But when you circle back to The Event... What was it? War? Aliens? Zombies? No, people just stopped procreating. Okaaaaay.

I think the gist is that, worldwide, life is turds rn and having kids is something that was more possible in the Before Times and thus the possibility of No Kids was possibly a hella scary concept for a movie in slightly less poo poo times like when the movie was made and now it's kind of quaint honestly compared to how bad everything is

It's origin is a derogatory term for straight people, mainly targeting women, that was, used by gay men and women since at least the 1970s and probably earlier. It was picked up by malicious people who infested "childfree support" communities and used to describe anyone who so much as thought positively of any child, anywhere, at any time. Again, mainly targeting straight women.
