we approach Halloween Month so I tossed on 1408 tonight It's a real good movie, and weird. Hotels are a good setting for horror; see The Shining |

last night i watched "the batman" and "godzilla: king of the monsters", both of which were fine. the batman has the makings of a good noir film that's sorta ruined by the cape poo poo. that whole chase scene with the penguin is like totally out of place and only exists to get you stoked for the trailer. godzilla: king of the monsters has some decent kaiju fights, but also has my least favorite trope (heroic self-sacrifice) like three times in it. no wonder the monsterverse fell apart after this one |

the sexfucker posted:it was so funny seeing people talk about how the batman was actually a really good detective story only to watch it and realize that the batman never actually deduces anything like come on right? like that scene with the DA with the explosive collar. what the gently caress was batman's game there besides making the guy blow up in exchange for a few answers? but it's kinda like old dime store novels in that way, too. the detective only figures things out as they happen and is lead by the events to their inevitable and shocking(!) conclusion. so to is it with the batman. not a good detective story, but it has the beginnings of a good noir. i look forward to them loving up the sequel. yeah, minus one remains one of my favorite godzillas. it's not a story about godzilla at all, but godzilla fits so perfectly with in it. it makes you care about the human element so much more than the usual monster slugfest you come to expect. minus one was a masterpiece of drama, trauma, and preservation in the face of overwhelming odds. it's a triumph. for that matter so was hideki anno's "shin godzilla", which also made you care for the human struggle against godzilla. i can never help but compare the two because they seem to be so much in conversation with each other. i digress. tonight i started watching "the terminator" but fell asleep. not because the movie's boring, but because i was tired. that's ok i've seen it so many times that i could absorb it through my sleep. still one of the all time best slasher flicks. |

I watched mission to mars, which stars Gary sinese's lipgloss and eyeliner team. Mission to mars is like if The Core was a 2001:space Odyssey fan fic instead an Armageddon rip off. it has the wonderful early CGI problem of no one knows where or when to look and no one reacts to things appropriately. For example a meteor flies through baby Jerry o connels hand and no one yells or says anything and it really doesn't come up again. I love how easy it is to just take off your space suit in this movie. Tim Robbins is in the movie but at one point he decides to just take his helmet off and leave the movie and I have to respect it. I have to thank this movie for decisively taking Gary sinese out of the leading man bucket. most of the movie he seems confused. Not like he's waiting to say his lines, but almost as if he's deciding if it's worth it. Also something is going on with his hair it seems like it was stolen from a younger man, it does not look real. Don cheadle is here too. In space no one can hear you act, 4/10, I recommend it if you don't want to watch a good movie

tonight is ?Mystery Movie Monday? at the local theater and i have off and money, so i'm gonna go see what they're playing. tonight's snack to sneak in: a bowl of mashed potato, stuffing, hot turkey and gravy, and cranberry sauce from the gas station up the road |

the mystery movie was "nuremberg" which i walked out on. just wasn't in the mood for a nearly 3 hour courtroom drama involving nazis. so instead i watched the quick and the dead, which i mentioned earlier in the thread, and that was a good time. one of sam raimi's finest non-horror movies |

Not credible is an apt description of that hallowed and respected motion picture it's definitely the kind of movie where the credits rolled and i wanted to recommend it to everyone i know, then realized i couldn't because of the small mountain of increasingly detailed content warnings i would have to give em. so in that respect, actually not terribly dissimilar from castration movie pt2 for which the elevator pitch could be "terminally online trans woman saló" she/her |
