At the beginning of the war, their motivation and momentum was off the charts. If they had gone straight for 1DQ1-A instead of trying to apply Division-Of-2009-Era-Northern-Coalition-(no dot) strategy to InitDOT, then we probably would have not fared nearly as well. Instead, they spent the entire war out of order -- doing the cleanup phase before they broke the defenders' will.

PMing or Evemailing or whatever a bunch of people under "Director Team - All" doesn't seem to work, probably because unlike the corporate world "Director" in a video game doesn't necessarily mean you handle people issues. It probably means you have access rights to reload a space cannon or something. I don't know what most people do for the alliance, tbh, and that's okay, but I can see how it would be hard for a victim of abuse to figure out who to contact, and it wouldn't surprise me if most directors are in the same boat. ("I just load ammo into space station space cannons. I have no idea what to do with this PM so I'll just ignore it.")

If the system isn't working, let's...fix the system?

Fostering a culture that reassures people that they will be okay after they report is a long-term trust thing. Like, in everything as small as a game community to as large as the country itself, the only way to make people feel more comfortable about reporting is to consistently be good to them after they report. When an online situation is dangerous and information is yet emerging, that does mean freezing everything. Where it seems our police forces on down to Space Boss Guy seem to gently caress up here is in a proper, consistent follow-up that can be trusted to set things right.

Take a loving step back for one second. All I said is that there needs to be a line between believing literally every accusation, and admitting some ppl are just that loving awful.

Harrassment is bad

Also thinking a bunch of video gamer players are going to be able to handle harrassment complaints as well as an actual HR department for no pay is crazy.

Also expecting people handling the complaints to speak publicly about it is pants on head stupid. That is HR 101. Both parties in the real world are supposed to agree to confidentially at least until it's resolved.

These processes can take months. Evidence needs to be gathered, interviews conducted, reports generated and so, so many meetings. I just finished one that took 4 months and we still have aspects of it that will take even more time.

Until you have run these types of investigations none of you have a clue what you are talking about.

But I’m not even angry any more. I was really angry. But decided to just send a final vaguely unfunny ping, self purge my roles, drop corp, and then uninstall jabber.

I’ve been playing this game on and off for literally half my life. Been in the alliance, again on and off, since 2011. I got made a director during the war. Did some cool stuff. Made a lot of cool friends. hosed around, found out. Got to FC Supercaps and that was cool. Spent way too many nights up at 3am protecting 1DQ.

But I’m just kind of…. Idk. empty.

Not really what I was expecting to happen when I made this entry in the “to discuss” section of this weeks ilum meeting, I don’t know what I was expecting, not this I guess. Because now I’m just sad.

Also, I think everyone outside of GSF hated him already anyway. It didn't really matter because GSF allies would rather have a big ally than an ally that wasn't captained by a sex pest.
