For people asking for an IK of the industry thread: nominally that's me. I haven't done a very good job of it, however, and I am sorry about that. I am about ready to give up on it now, since we've had these discussions several times and I've begun to think maybe it's just not a thread that'll work in this forum. I think a good bit of this is my fault, I've said in the past I'd be more aggressive about policing chat and then I just wasn't. No real excuses for that. I'm sorry to posters like Boba Pearl and Lady Radia and Stux I think in particular who have felt forced to aggressively put the thread back on tracks, which isn't a pleasant thing for them to have to do and they shouldn't have felt like they needed to. One problem is this: the industry thread was essentially spun off the MeToo thread, since labour issues started coming up in there and while those are important for discussion they're also not always relevant to rape, sexual abuse and harassment. It was also initially more specifically about the Blizzard/Activision news but gradually it broadened in scope. The effect of this was ultimately that everything "serious" moved into the industry thread and no one posts in the MeToo thread anymore, even though it's still open. And that means instead of having a thread dedicated to sensitively (ideally) discussing sexual harassment and abuse and one dedicated to labor and other industry issues, we have one with everything jumbled together and I think that's an issue when you end up with discussions of adblockers and sexual harassment side by side. They're both "on-topic" technically but you can use an irreverent tone about one and not the other, so it creates a real clash.

Steam thread is basically the "pc games chat thread" even though they resist being labelled that. Console threads are generally just chat threads anyway unless the console/storefront is doing something super specific at a certain moment in time. We do have two threads for it actually, it's just no one ever uses the MeToo thread anymore. We can start reminding people that thread exists when the topic comes up in the industry thread, although it feels a bit bad to kick people out of a thread when they're talking about sexual harassment or abuse.
