Darkwolf used to run the breaks in the hockey thread and it was a great time. I still collect just hockey since it is my favorite sport and other sports are silly expensive, but I appreciate the hobby and the brands Topps puts out. Looking forward to what people share!

The old hockey card thread was awesome, we did group breaks and pulled some crazy stuff. It was right around the time Panini was getting out of hockey so you had a bunch of crazy cheap products combined with mid 2010 prices on cards.

I miss those days of competition and multiple companies with licenses. While I only do hockey and Upper Deck seems strong enough, I’m terrified to see what Fanatics does with everything they’ve acquired and what it’ll do to card shops down the line.

Anyone planning to go to the National in Chicago this year? As a hockey guy who doesn't spend high end money I don't usually get too much, but there's so much there that I'll never see again in person that it's still a fun experience.

Sometimes they can make the design clever with stickers and I don’t mind it as much. It’s a bummer because back in the early 2000s stickers were non existent AND people were getting cards out in a timely manner, but the hobby’s changed so much since then.

My personal favorites have been when they’ve done cut autos of sorts by having players sign card stock that goes into a window. Makes the auto pop more. But I understand those are more heavy on production and cost.

Is anyone going to the National this week in Chicago/ Rosemount?

I got into Chicago today and will attend tomorrow. Don’t expect too much since I’m primarily a hockey guy who buys midrange stuff but it’s fun to visit anyway.

National was cool but holy god there were so many actual children all trying to sell stuff and be YouTube influencers. And the worst part is they all have more money than me :argh:

Well that sure is something. I wonder how many people knew this was going to happen and what it means for sets this year. Assuming they can't halt production/sale of what's already been produced and scheduled to release.

I’ll be attending Friday and Saturday. It’s nice to go to a show of this scale where hockey is the primary focus.

That's beautiful. Has Fantatics gotten involved with the production of Topps yet, or was it more of a "we're buying you but keep doing what you're doing" situation?

We’re two weeks away from the National, I cannot wait to see cards I will never be able to afford in my lifetime get sold to teenagers.

drat those are incredibly short printed. It’s a 1 in 2160 pack pull for the set with the Gretzky being the only SP in it. Congrats!

For the flagship set, Upper Deck really does a nice job with the photography. They get some fun shots, especially on the canvas cards. The blasters are also nice to scratch the itch of opening product to see what you get without breaking the bank. Then if you really want something, just go with buying singles. Sure it's fun to hit something you collect, but it's really easy to get disappointed by getting say $20 of singles out of a $100 box if it's players you don't really care about.

Upper Deck did a really nice job with the Bruins set, can’t imagine Detroit being any different.
