I really like the music from Halatali (Hard) as well. Just a big ol' pounding drum track that plays while the gladiator guild has fun training you for combat!

Man, the Alchemist role quests are a lot more interesting than I was expecting. I thought it was going to be something like 'make liniment for granny's sore knee', not 'FANTASY CRIME LAB MURDER SPECTACULAR 24-7'.

Heck, they're sprouts. They may not really... 'get' comms, if they're playing without a helpful Discord or free company to give them tips on existing in Eorzea. They probably felt gratitude towards you but didn't know to push the button in the lower right, particularly if they were looking around for the exit or what have you.

ARR Paladin questline is fine as well, although not great by any means (and also stars a real boneheaded twerp).

HW Paladin is not just bad, it's baffling. What is this? Who wrote this? The heck does this have to do with being a paladin? Why is the twerp still here?

It was so dumb that SB noped out of it and sent you right back to the Gladiators.

I was repeatedly running a dungeon with my trust squad for those all-important glam reasons, and the dungeon took significantly, noticeably longer to complete when I played Reaper and took a DPS slot than when I played Paladin and let the trust members do the DPSing. The bosses were lasting long enough to pull off moves that the paladin had never seen.

Granted I'm probably bad at DPS, but I'm not that bad.

Does the companion phone app do anything to make it worth using? It looks pretty worthless unless you chat with your friends a lot or you really want to spend hours micromanaging your inventories while not logged in. I mean, I wouldn't mind having an extra chocobo saddlebag, but I don't want to pay five bucks a month for the privilege.

Granted, if it let you manage your ventures, I'd be firing off quick explorations from the bus every day.

Just in general when soloing, how are you supposed to deal with that? Just be so overpowered that you one-shot the boss before they can hit that phase?

I'm at high 60s on my SCH/SMN, figured "I can just unsync the few ARR dungeons I haven't done. Let's try Lost City." Spent the next fifteen minutes getting eaten by the first boss. I didn't want to give up after the first attempt, maybe it could be avoided. All Signs Point To No.

Uuuugh yeah you just gotta wait and power up. Eventually you'll go in and smash them into the floor, though, which is a rush.

I did actually manage to solo Lost City, but I did it as a paladin - the eat boss spits you out at 1 hp, so I spent my time in his gut button-mashing Hallowed Ground as fast as I could. He spit me out, I became invulnerable instantly, and managed to heal up to reasonable levels before Hallowed Ground wore off. I did not enjoy this process, but it worked. (Well, it worked six months ago. I don't know if anything's been changed.)

You can spend the silver chocobo feathers at a Calamity Salvager to get random early- to mid-game armor and weapons. I don't think they have anything that's unique to the silver feathers - it's mostly early dungeon gear and then mid-level Tomestone stuff - but it's a way to get a thing without spending tomestones on it.

I'd recommend skipping the green items, since they're just dungeon drops.

Is there any real reason I should be repairing my equipment myself instead of paying the NPC menders? I know you can 'over'-repair your equipment, but frankly it's a weird day when my stuff drops below 85% anyway and it's just so easy to pay someone else a trifle to fix it back up.

Man, the Alexander raids are great, and in a way that feels different from other raids. The camera going at dramatic angles to follow you through hallways, boss fights getting interrupted by you getting sucked through pipes... and, of course, the music.

Guess I should have done these earlier. :v:

If, as a tank, I have a choice between two lv. 90 weapons:

- A blue weapon with +2 base damage which cannot be overmelded
- A green weapon which can, in theory, hold five materia

... which one should I pick? Okay, specifically I should wait for 6.3 to find out if a better weapon is coming, but in general? I've been prioritizing base damage so far but if I'm going to settle into a weapon that doesn't need to be replaced every two levels, I suppose the answer might be different.

I feel like I'm not doing well enough at max-level crafting and there must be something I'm missing. I mean, I've got all the best crafting gear and I'm in the process of overmelding it, I eat high-level food and chug a +CP medicine before I start, and still it's a miracle when a master recipe has more than a fifteen percent chance of HQ. Is that... normal? Am I just supposed to gently caress up most of the time?

Are there any good max-level crafting tutorials that I can look at? I'd prefer something I can read to something I have to watch, but a video is better than wasting another handful of bayberries.

I'm talking about making the HQ materials to begin with - crafting zoisites and bayberry cloth and things like that from the raw materials I've gathered. By the time I run out of CPs my quality is usually around fifteen to twenty percent. It sounds like my problem is not knowing what order to use my skills in, or what skills are worth using.

I've tried looking for crafting tutorials and I haven't found anything really helpful. Pretty much everything I find is either a beginner's guide or a leveling guide, and that's not what I need.

When I hit lv. 15 I quickly learned to go watch a video guide to any dungeons/trials before I did them, so I'd know what to expect in a fight and I wouldn't be a drag on my teammates. The fight would start, I'd tell everybody I was new to the fight but I'd watched a video, and usually everything was okay. (Usually. Bismarck.)

Now I'm poking at lv. 90 optional dungeons and I watched a guide for Smileton and that ended up actually psyching me out. A lot of the end-MSQ fights felt like they were on the bleeding edge of my ability to cope with them already, and the bosses in that one just look so hectic. My confidence is temporarily shot. Blech.

I'll probably end up posting on Party Finder with a disclaimer when I'm actually ready to try, or maybe I'll just go whimper on Discord. In the meantime I'll be over here, painfully crafting Indagator pieces.

What's the usual way to deal with boss FATEs like that? I shouted about it in Thavnair and then went to Radz-at-Han and shouted there, but no one bothered to come out, so maybe I should have told someone else?

Ha ha, yeah, I spent a good fifteen minutes scrolling through and cashing those out once I realized they existed. Mostly goofy-rear end ARR prestige gear, but hey, I'll take it.

There's also a guy named Jonathas in Gridania that people should go talk to. He's up near that little lake thing. He gives you a special coin for every achievement you've got, and you can turn right around and spend them at his shop to get mounts and things.

ARR is all about being Minfilia's mute, brainless weapon. She sends you to do a thing. You do the thing. She says thank you, now kill this thing. You kill the thing. Maybe make an emote.

It took a while for the WoL to develop any MSQ agency, and I suspect a lot of that is because making you a robot is a lot easier to write.

I'm enjoying Lancer/Dragoon a fair bit, because you get an actual adversary to liven up the stolid Lancer story and then the class actually slots nicely into the MSQ as soon as you get your job crystal. I'm only a couple of steps into HW, though, so it has plenty of time to fall flat on its dragon-tinted face. :v:

Anything's better than PLD, though. I'll stand by that.

Not related to Endwalker at all, but if you haven't done so, you should go back to Ishgard, go to the shopping area, find the NPC named Mathye, and do the lv. 56 quest called 'Keeping the Ledger'. Best done after doing the ARR Hildibrand quests.

If I queue up a duty roulette, will it only choose from dungeons/raids/etc. that I have already done, or can it also potentially pick dungeons/raids/etc. which I have unlocked and can theoretically enter at any time, but haven't done yet?

I am woefully behind on alliance raids despite having unlocked most of them and I thought it might be cool to just let the roulette pick which one I do next. Okay, yes, that will end up with me rerunning the Crystal Tower every day. But could it theoretically do otherwise?

I went back to finish leveling Fisher a couple of weeks ago and so help me I can't do anything else but fish now.

It also levels super quick! Ocean fishing trips are the quickest, sure, but you get such a huge EXP bonus from catching large-sized fish that you can make a level in ten to fifteen minutes of fishing at a hole near your level. Once I figured out how Patience and the two special hook skills worked, that was pie. Just put on a Versatile Lure and pick up basic fish.

Seriously, always carry five to ten Versatile Lures in your inventory. You get them on the docks at Limsa and they work in literally every fishing area, as far as I know, as long as you just want basic fish and you don't mind the occasional miss. I actually made level 90 fishing up jhinga on one. I have tossed them into sand, lava, aetherpools, and the vastness of space. They just keep on truckin'.

Yeah, I quickly learned to zoom out as far as possible in all actual combat content and then zoom back into the middle distance when I was just running around (since being inside a city makes the camera bounce off walls and poo poo).

Also last night I saw a sprout who had the same last name as my character, which makes sense, since I used the random name generation tool to pick a name and then tinkered with the first name to get something I liked. So I guess I've got kin on the Xbox! I should probably say hi or something.
