Organized right wing extremist violence slowed its trajectory a lot between OKC and Malheur and I genuinely believe that was because the Insane Clown Posse was sucking the oxygen out of the spaces they would've been recruiting from in that era.

My take on it is that the neonazis are the rabid doberman two metres away and growling with its teeth bared and the tankies are the doberman aggressing on other dogs and making people think that all dogs that bark in public should be destroyed by the county. Neonazis are the more direct threat, sure. But the tankies are making otherwise left-sympathetic people lean more and more right out of reaction.

When you've got people like Glenn Greenwald appearing on Fox News and giving interviews with right-wing pundits in order to undermine confidence in the democratic system, I'd say it's a fair assessment that tankies and right-wing militants are fighting on the same side. Their support gives air cover to the folks on the right by weakening social cohesion and making it seem like it's "everyone" versus the "elites". It's not confined to the US, either. Like, keep in mind that tankies are actively supporting a right-wing dictatorship's invasion and subjugation of its neighbor. The same dictatorship with whom the American right has an ongoing love affair. Charging $240/year seems like a drop in the bucket compared to what they earn from ad sales, especially since they don't have the billing and subscription platform for users built yet. I also just realized that Elon has no experience running a modern SaaS company. This is the kind of idea I'd expect from a first year business administration undergrad.
