Watched American Werewolf in London for the first time earlier. Best werewolf transformation I've seen in a movie. It was good too.

I kind of wish they'd do a remake of it, or at least remake some of the later special effects. The transformation really was well done (and the dead friend), but a lot of the scenes later on with the wolf in the streets attacking people really haven't aged well at all - it's clearly a green-screened muppet. There's one scene where it attacks someone and it really looks as if they just threw it at him from off-camera, and some of the victims have almost pink blood. It's like they blew their effects budget early on.
It's also great to see a young Rik Mayall in the pub at the start.

Well then you should go check out the sequel An American Werewolf in Paris which was made 16 years later and has updated special effects!!! It's awesome!!!

It sucks super hard, they replaced the practical effects with 90s CGI

E: seriously though, here's an interview with Landis and Baker talking about that specific scene and all the problems they had figuring out how to have a SFX quadruped running through a crowded city street. Landis admits that he became 'enamored' with Baker's finished piece and showed too much of it

Yeah I really didn't like the final stage of the transformation at all. It just looks like a big stuffed dog. If they would have stopped halfway through, that's what I think of more as a werewolf. Walking on two legs and 7 feet tall, etc.

I actually like the final transformation of the woman in The Howling. When she is on TV, warning society at large about the existence of werewolves. I think she turns into a cute, puppy dog-ish werewolf, and you can really see the pain and despair in her eyes as she begs to be killed.

Spoilers for a more than 40 year old film.

No way. I mean I agree with when it starts but hey, there is a bleed off period after the 31st of October, All Hallows Eve. I'm still watching horror movies every night.

Let's give it until November 8th, election day. Then the REAL scary poo poo will begin!!! :dadjoke:

Consider this a shot fired on the war on Christmas.

On October 1st, I went into two local hardware stores to see about getting some more Halloween decor, only to find Christmas taking up most of the front of the store, with Halloween relegated to a small corner far away from the doors.

If there is a war on Christmas, it is only because Christmas fired the first shots and is constantly trying to take more territory.

Edit: as a non-Satanic American, let's see what the Good Book has to say about it:

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, King James Version posted:

To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.
A time to be spooky, and a time to be normie.

Wait your loving turn, Saint Nick.
