it's a ubiquitous (in the US) chain of motels and in my experience they have ice machines which dispense ice

when we go on a road trip we often have a cooler or two in the car, for food and drink, it needs to be kept cold with ice.

a mini fridge is way too small

the last hotel i stayed at in san jose didn't have ice machines in the hallways, but there were signs in the hallway telling you you could get ice from the bar in the lobby. still had an ice bucket in the room though

I will say I was kinda annoyed that I had to get ice from the bar but mainly because there wasn't a person working the bar, just the concierge checking people in/out so I always felt like a dick asking for it
