I was once staying at a hotel in Parramatta (a suburb in Sydney) for a 21st.

I went to the front desk and there was an american guy there going on and on about how he needs ice, how hotels need free ice, there should be an ice machine, how can there not be free ice etc. Ice is not a thing in Australian hotels but maybe it is in American ones idk

The lady at the front desk was like of course sir I will bring some to your room. He leaves (thank christ). I asked her how she was gonna get ice and she said she was just gonna drive to the servo and pick up some bags and just keep them in the freezer and dole them out to him when he complained

tl;dr - Americans loudly and aggressively complain about a lack of ice in australian hotels
