I volunteer emergency elf if it's needed.

Also, if anyone wonders where the yostop is, I have it. I'm still, uh, doing stuff with it. I've been busy this year so I may not be able to ship it out.

I forgot what I wrote and I was probably not logged in when I wrote it so here's my blurb.

RULE #1, PLEASE NOTHING ILLEGAL. THIS INCLUDES WEED. Weed in the US is still not cool in the federal level. There are no other rules except the obvious one of using your best judgement.

Otherwise, anything else is cool. But if you want me to be specific...

I like computers. Old computers, and things that run on old computers. Small computers, including arduinos and raspberry pis. CD-ROMs full of 90s shareware. Old hardware. floppy disks, both pc and mac formatted.

I like learning stuff, so old books you find interesting will probably be interesting to me. Finance. Music. Philosophy. History. Fiction. Sheet music. Recipes.

I have a steam account and can post a username if people want.

Package received! Pics incoming! Santa, these pics will not have your notes on them.

From my mysterious Santa, I have received the following bounty:

A kickass floppy disk notebook!

Funny enough, I use a superdisk for actual backups of critical note repositories that I manage with mercurial, but I unfortunately do not have any actual floppies at home.

Superdisks are nice because you can actually eject them! Modern usb sticks buffer their writes so I never feel like it's safe to unplug them until a minute after my computer says it's ok or until the disk activity LEDs stop blinking.

At least with a notebook, the only buffer is between the mind and the pen.

Meditations, by Marcus Aurelius. At 170 pages, this feels like a paperback that I can quickly skim over a few hours to get the gist of it, and then keep referencing the cool parts of it for the rest of my life or until I gift it to an intern or something when I'm on my deathbed (likely a cot next to my posting station). From what I've read of it so far, each paragraph could be a prompt that could inspire a journal entry in the floppy disk book. The latest sentence that struck me was "Care for other human beings. Follow God." Timeless.

The Soul of a New Machine, by Tracy Kidder. It's really amazing to think about how much good poo poo was written so long ago. The seminal work of true software engineering, The Mythical Man Month by Fred Brooks, was written in 1975. But whereas the latter contains advice, it feels like the former will probably contain the stories that fuel that kind of advice.

This is all gold. Complete gold. Books like these are the only things that keep me sane. Books and anime.

Thank you, Santa! Please feel free to unmask yourself if you like.

What if the dog wanted the soap? Or the SDR? Or both? :colbert:

Also, SDR sounds cool, I hope you do cool enough stuff to make a thread!
