I am a full convert to induction. You have to get used to your timings being a bit different if you cook the same things a lot, but once you've got that sorted it's really no different to gas and everything's so easy to clean. The only downside is getting used to reading a number off a panel instead of looking at a flame to see at a glance what heat you're at.

I don't know, because I got new pans because my old ones weren't ferrous. Not having a flat bottom would definitely be an issue, but if they are steel and flat bottomed I don't see what the problem would be. If you're worried about the surface of an old pan scratching up the glass give them a good scour and a rinse I guess.
