The best outcome would've been for him to head up engineering and have someone else handle strategy and trackside management. Thats a difficult pill for someone in such a prominent position to swallow though so I'm not sure that ever was realistically going to happen.

Yeah, once he’s been promoted to running the whole deal, there’s no way you’re demoting him back to “just” the engineering side. The only way is out.

Also massive lol at the Juventus situation.

First car I ever drove was a Land Rover Discovery because my dad is a masochist and thought one of those would be interesting to own (it was, for his wallet).

First car I owned was an ‘89 325iS coupe, which we only recently sold. It’s been mostly stored since I moved to Japan, and kind of became a ‘stick or twist’ time with it, and then my dad somehow found a buyer by complete accident. I’ve since gone and found a BMW 118i which will free me from having to use a share car service for making Costco runs.

It needs time, but this is an incredibly strong possibility.

have they figured out that poor mechanical grip and an overdependence on wing aero leads to god awful racing yet

Ferrari were good in 2019! And then something happened and they had to apologize without specifying why and were Real Bad in 2020 and didn’t win in 2021 either.

After the whole spring of 2020, Lewis came back much stronger politically and so did Seb Vettel. Naturally, not everyone was on board.

Nikita Mazepin was one of the absolute worst pay drivers I have seen in my life, and he lost his seat before the 2022 season because his family was sanctioned after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

McLaren won a race and gave way too many people hope, chief amongst them Danny Ric. (Seriously, go watch Monza 2020 and 2021).

Cars aren’t going ICE-only, but removing the MGU-H aka the heat capture part of the turbocharger from 2026. So the KERS part (braking recovery) will have more power instead. This change has already got Audi to commit to joining F1, and possibly Honda. There are rumors about who Red Bull will have badge their 2026~ engines after Porsche fell through.

are they still gonna be 1.6t v6s?

yeah, I think the only other car I've heard use the MGU-H was Porsche's 919 sports prototype car - at the time in the WEC the LMP1 hybrid cars could use different types of systems, and Porsche used one of those. But the complexity and limited road car relevance was cited by plenty of people as a reason they didn't jump in during the current era (Cosworth I think had a design ready for the ICE but didn't think they could do the MGU-H at all, and I think removing it was the thing the VAG companies wanted).

Believe they're still going to be 1.6l V6 turbos.
