Let us not forget that the sport already had these rules in place for some years until it was tested directly by Sir Lewis particularly and also by Sir Seb during the pandemic, with both of them wearing rainbows on their suits/helmets in countries with openly homophobic governments, and with Sir Lewis wearing Arrest The Cops Who Killed Breonna Taylor shirts on podiums for example. In those cases the FIA/F1 made slight PR moves to chastise Sir Lewis and Sir Seb on behalf of racists and homophobes worldwide, and were immediately met with strongly negative responses from the public or from others in media. The FIA/F1 caved in those cases -- in a way that I would be tempted to call cowardly but I'm not sure if that's the right word for it because they were terrorized into doing the right thing and only did the right thing out of fear and I'm just not sure what language is best to describe that moral position of theirs based on their intent and ultimate actions.

The situation is now different. Sir Seb has retired and Sir Lewis is not the reigning champion and it is unclear what his chances of winning races/championships will be in the future, having a not dominant Mercedes to drive. Part of what was going on when the FIA/F1 caved before was the politics of power. Sir Lewis was perceived to have power because he won lots of races. That is now not the case.

In the vacuum of morality that incubates the elite institutions of motorsport, might makes right. Power justifies itself. And now Sir Lewis (pbuh) the most moral of drivers finds himself in a weaker position. About 1,990 years ago another of God's most righteous children found Himself in a similar position relative to the mortal human powers around him. As did He, so will Sir Lewis triumph ultimately over the transient powers of evil (FIA/F1) who sit on their own earthly thrones today. We each must consider our own relationship to God's own Truth in this situation (read: you need to root for Sir Lewis at every race) and think of the moral state of our own eternal souls. Still He rises.

I think I did the wikipedia chart math on this once (or maybe wikipedia did the math) and actually Cooper was the most deadly team in F1 history? Things were starting to improve a bit on the safety front in Colin's era. I mean in terms of drivers anyway, I don't know if workers or spectators were tracked that well.
