here's my idea for a streaming app, itd be an algorithmic "playlist" that would create an "e-channel" for you to watch, catered to your interests. everyone misses those days of popping on the tv and lazing about with your favorite channel. the success of pluto tv and etc support this. so this app would connect with your other apps and you could tell it, i want to watch simpsons seasons 2-8, i want to watch king of the hill, i want to watch star trek and the wire. and then you get all those. and maybe it throws a 'recommended' show in there occasionally but you could turn it off if you want. now here is where this idea really starts to grill its chicken: holidays. we all love holidays and watching tv show episodes about the holidays around that holiday time. well what if you can tell an app, i want all the king of the hill thanksgiving eps, i want planes trains and automobiles, i want any classic nicktoons about thanksgiving. and then you could just watch it all

The business plan was mainly to move away from advertiser dependent monetization schemes that the large streaming services employ, that I think are particularly predatory on streamers and content creators in general. And there's not much competition to sway the industry away from it. It was essentially taking Netflix's subscription style service and applying it to a site like Twitch, basically charging a subscription fee to access the site entirely (not just subscribing to individual channels which is what Twitch does). From that monthly subscription cost I wanted to give 50% of the subscription fees back to the users to spend on independent creators and streamers on the platform. The other 50% going towards upkeep costs of running the service and hosting/transcoding of the content, as well as a team of lawyers that care about Fair Use and Copyright laws to help protect the users in case they (fairly) utilized copyrighted content in their streams for their protection.

This all mainly stemmed from me wanting to quit my career of making video game art that I had been doing for 12 years to pursue streaming and entertaining/educating full time. As I was doing my research on how I could possibly make the transition I realized just how lovely content creators and streamers get shafted by YouTube and Twitch's monetization strategies. And also, the stuff I wanted to stream would probably get me demonetized pretty quickly since the art that I make occasionally has nudity and I didn't agree with the selective censorship and demonetization that both of those big corps do.

I realize now (well, maybe about 2 years ago) it was obviously a bad idea for one person to try to take on two massive monopolies, but in my manic state I convinced myself that what I was doing was for the greater good of creators like me who just wanted to share their knowledge and entertainment with people... and be able to financially support themselves while doing it, which is what a lot of smaller YouTubers and Twitch streamers really struggle to do.

That's a brief summary of why I did it all... Everyone I talked to IRL about the idea thought it was awesome and kept me motivated, but I don't think even they were aware of what I was trying to accomplish. I had a friend help me out who was amazing, she did some awesome work and we actually got streaming up and running off of a webserver, I was trying to figure out a way to get in contact with someone at Microsoft under the Azure team since that's the tech that Mixer previously used for low-latency streaming, but that's when my money started running out. I ended up dissolving the corporation and going into a massive depressive episode and wanted to kill myself for a while, but luckily I made it out alive.

Ok, I read the rules and again, I'm trying to abide by them.

I created this thread so I wasn't some 'shill'.. I'm unsure to the context of this word yet. Or door salesman spewing this all over the forums. I made one thread about our platform to discuss it, in order to not violate any other areas of interest outside of this directly.

I talked about this briefly in one thread that allowed sharing creative ventures, that's it. And realized, hey, to make it simple, I'll create this thread, then I won't be alienating anyone else's space.

I respect your opinon but if you're just going to dig into me because I'm trying to create something I care about and advocate what I believe in. Then fine, I didn't spend three years to get to this step to be stopped by a comment on a forum on the internet.

You can conduct yourself however you like, but I'm not digging into anyone or anything and I'm doing as much as I can, here, on this forum, to make sure any talk about this platform will be here. Which to me is the best way to not interfere or disrupt any other portals of discussion.
