I was going to post my big theory and hit preview before I posted, but for the record my thought was the Beast would have a way to communicate explicitly with the non-human members of the crew - we have a number of 3P who were "other specimens" that were released, and a Beast being able to coordinate them via masonry would blunt the impact of a split scumteam where one is effectively an aligned SK.
