every now and then the Algorithm will recommend me a new band or song and i will just, not be able to understand how the song is either forgotten or was never remembered in the first place. the music world is weird and finicky and sometimes, shockingly enough, talent and quality are not the sole determiners of popularity! 1. The Clique - "Hallelujah" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EHPaN3o8JWo (2.6k views on YouTube, 2,000 monthly listeners for the band on Spotify, the song itself has less than 10k total plays ever) i think, probably most people only have ever heard of this band because they had the novelty (but very good!) song "Superman" that REM covered. but holy gently caress, are you hearing this thing? how in the world was this song not a hit, and how has it not been used in a million movies? do you hear that voice? loving hallelujah! 2. The Rosaries - "Leaving" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IpLTUkDVlPo this is a twee band that released one EP which you couldn't find even on youtube until a couple years ago, and this song was also on a c86 compilation tape, because of course it was. i am serious that i'm pretty sure it is legitimately the greatest song ever written, by anyone

I've been rocking the hell out of this song this year and just kind of figured it was a club banger that millions of 20 somethings were super into. youtube shows... 66k views? drat the algorithm is a fickle mistress https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qBMePC_Xndk

Doris Days - To Ulrike M. This song got some traction by a Zero7 remix. I feel the original is great and was a bit overlooked. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kcgx3fQ7mVE

Known about these guys for years, but a recent online review reminded me. I have other bands I think are more rare and more unknown and more awesome, to various degrees... and this stands very proudly beside them. Dark Quarterer - Red Hot Gloves (Rehearsal 1984) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYy6kwvXTio CumBlast Radius Jr fucked around with this message at 14:02 on Nov 30, 2022 |
