man this reminded me of a CAD proof of concept someone made way back in the day of a hamster ball covered in spikes, with like a little robot inside of it driving around with an omni-wheel system to steer the giant ball. i think his name for it was Chaosphere or something equally 2005.

Someone in the first season of Robot Wars UK make a bot that was literally just an RC car inside a giant hamster ball.

There's a few teams that have it on their shirts, I know I saw one this week, I think it was Tantrum.

Emulsifier is another NHRL team. Looks like they went all out on the NHRL branding. Which is cool.

I thought they sounded familiar. Also, is that tracked? I love the idea of tracks on robots but I know that realistically they're just a risk and likely to end up broken with your bot floundering with no mobility.

End Game pretty much didn't let Blip do anything else. End Game deserves it's #1 ranking and has a really good driver and stays squared up to it's opponent. Going to the Judges is pretty much a win against End Game. Only Tantrum went to the judges with End Game last season and only MInotaur was able to knock them out...

I know its how they win, but I find it makes watching End Game kind of boring. They just sit in the middle of the arena and wait for their opponent to come to them. Tactically its sound, but visually its just dull.

Also, what a surprise, Emulsifier lost because of their treads.

Yeah, Fusion's top cover looked like it was just loose and sat there with maybe one bolt holding it on at the end, like the one weapon hit would have sent it flying.

Also, HyperBlaze, when?

The Minotaur guys warned everyone years ago that was how it went in Brazil and it ended up being a snoozefest.

Considering how much destruction could have happened with this episode its mad 3 fights ended in people just getting stuck on the wall.

Bertha the Toaster

Was that high speed? I thought it was just the normal footage slowed down. The problem with high speed cameras is needing to more work to use than a normal camera.

Bertha the Toaster
Jan 11, 2009
I have no idea how it works but I feel like 480FPS or maybe even 1000FPS might be workable. I guess the main problem is you'd need more than one camera to cover the arena properly.

You've got to hope they threw the teams a bunch of money and said "we need five please".

I wonder if they get to keep what ever's left afterwards...

Bertha the Toaster

Oh yeah, I hadn't noticed. You've got to assume they weren't allowed them as Discovery has paid for them to be built.

It looked like they were trying to move but were going nowhere, I can only assume they were high centred on something.

Edit: Just saw on Reddit from a team member, apparently if you look at the footage closely you'll see a bit of debris stuck to a magnet on the bottom of the bot.

As dumb as it looked I think it won them the fight as it showed Kraken's weapon was dead and theirs, even though ineffective, was still going so they got the damage points.

Good fight. I figured either there'd be one big hit and it'd be over or the two would go at it and I figured they'd have the edge in durability, guess I was right. Not really sure what happened, I guess their weapon stopped working right at the moment and they couldn't get going again.

How is it bullshit . Copperhead probably got almost all the points. (unless you were live commenting then okay).

It was sarcasm. The joke being that it was a very clear cut fight. Although I suppose I wouldn't mind seeing if Triton scored any points.

Bertha the Toaster

Considering the episodes is titled "You want a pizza me?" I reckon they might be in with a chance. That and I honestly expect them to rip a wheel of Hijinx.

Bertha the Toaster

Its like they went into the fight knowing they're not the best out of the two and decided to sabotage themselves so they could blame the loss on that.

Bertha the Toaster
Jan 11, 2009
I honestly don't understand how Monsoon lost, they'd almost ripped off an entire top panel from Whiplash, and as far as I could see they received no damage. Where did Whiplash get 2 points in the damage category from?

Random tangentially related question/shower thought.

I've heard in the past that when teams are getting ready for a fight they'll watch old fights that their opponent have had. Now if that footage isn't easily available legally, how are they doing that? Are all the teams having to pirate the show so they can have easy and quick access to fight footage? Do they share footage between teams of fights that they've recorded themselves?

Bertha the Toaster
Jan 11, 2009
Yeah, I'll never understand Beta, its a great hammer-bot, but hammer-bots are never going to win BattleBots. Even more so when you do weird things like swap your hammer for whatever the hell that was and then put on wibbly-wobbly armour that doesn't cover the whole bot.

Bertha the Toaster

Weirdly it was only yesterday I watched the Skorpios video where they talked with him and how he'd likely be back at some point. I'd like to think it was real, but yeah, April Fools.

I'm really confused by that video. He talks about the weapon slowing down "for some reason" and posts a photo of the fight where you can clearly see their chain has come off. Is he missing the blindingly obvious or is he just not explaining it correctly?

I've also added in the teams records!

Agreed on the Slamo/Double Tap and HiJinx/Switchback fights sounding uninteresting, even though I like HiJinx. I just think Switchback doesn't really work as a concept. I like the sound of it, and I think it would be fine at a lower weight class, but it just doesn't seem to work at this scale.
