I'm really enjoying the small changes to the show format. It feels more genuine and sincere, but also fun. Giving more information and letting the team personalities shine. I love that stuff.

If Jake is going to drive Hydra like that then I have no problem with him winning. He even seems to have found a more likeable "villain" persona this time. The one take they used he couldn't even get the line out without cracking up, which I enjoy. Seems like Triton's weapon bar is too heavy for the motor they are using. It didn't seem to hit very hard even though it's so massive.

That was some fine bot battling. I'd like to see the new Kraken operating at full capacity. They are a fun team.

I don't think the bots have to win fights to get into the 32, they just have to be entertaining.

For sure it's both, but I could imagine a scenario where a rookie bot that barely works gets four technical wins in boring fights, while a known bot like say Witch Doctor looses four exciting tough fights and still gets in.That's super extreme and I don't think it will happen, but a bot like Blip that they have hyped up a bunch will probably get in as long as it's entertaining and they don't have to bump off another veteran bot.

I have to give BattleBots credit for not overstating the drama of the appeal. They spaced out the clips of the process but they didn't try to over hype it or try to make it seem like anyone was really angry. Pretty honest and fair presentation of the process imo. Far cry from some of the stunts they have pulled in the past.

Nissin Cup Nudist posted:Giving Valkyrie both aggression and control is also I thought so too. Maybe it looked different in person but I thought Malice was doing most of the attacking. I need to watch the video of Lisa explaining the rules again. The judges do get a lot more hate than they deserve and this was a pretty poor showing from both teams anyway so I'm not upset about it. Pretty low stakes way to introduce the appeals process really.

Man I love Kraken. I didn't realize how bad their record was though. I hope more bots that aren't verts can get dialed in the way Claw Viper has this year. I don't have high hopes that a crusher will ever be top bot, but at least a control bot has a chance to burn out a weapon motor and get an opponent stuck somehow. I hope Whiplash can find their groove too. The sport is best when amazing driving is on display, in my opinion anyway.

Maybe even the teams competing don't understand the judging matrix! ![]() Always nice to see great driving by Matt Vasquez pay off. Whiplash the bot wouldn't be much without him at the sticks. Captain Shredderator is always whining about a loss, but come on. Maybe what Riptide did wasn't against the rules but that wasn't cool. I don't remember any other teams going back in for more and more hits after they clearly won. Dude from Kraken is an excellent example of how to take a loss gracefully and show sportsmanship. There a pics of him with the little kid from Copperhead after the match. Stand up guy. Martin Mason was great as a guest commentator too. Seems to really know his stuff when it comes to Battlebots. Honestly I think the people are the most important part of the show. It's the personalities and emotions that come through that make the fights worthwhile imo.

I think judge Derek was changing numbers just for the sake of changing numbers but still giving Whiplash the win. I think he had it right the first time. I don't see how Lisa gave Monsoon more control points than Whiplash, but I'm a big fan of Whiplash so I'm willing to admit I'm biased.

Nissin Cup Nudist posted:The right side of Whiplash's drive was all messed up and it couldn't really move decisively or effectively after that Even after they lost drive on one side Whiplash had more control than Monsoon and showed more aggression. Monsoon was spinning around while Whiplash maneuvered to engage and won every contact the bots had.

Chronojam posted:I think this season they've done a fantastic job explaining and restating the rules throughout the process. It's probably the best one ever from a "making sure you know how this works" perspective. I agree. BattleBots the TV show is doing a great job being BattleBots the sport. They still like to stir some drama, but at least with the appeals they have been very restrained, especially when they just mention an appeal happened and give the results. Showing the score cards more often is nice too. I'm really enjoying this season.

I've heard Reese's joke before enough that I should have seen it coming, but his delivery was so good I believed him right until the punchline. Good episode. I think Terrortops could have a future. At least that general design anyway. Disappointed in Copperhead. Should have just gone weapon on weapon and let the gods sort it out.

I've always been a fan of Huge. Love to see it working so well.

Snowglobe of Doom posted:I gotta say that even though StarChild was completely ineffective that was still a massively entertaining fight, which I guess is the best we could expect from the current iteration of StarChild. It can't fight for poo poo but it dies real good. It really was a great fight to watch. I rewound and watched it twice!

I love how the sport has grown. When I was a kid I thought it was the coolest thing but we didn't have the money. I'd build bots out of Lego with my brother and we'd just wheel them across the floor at each other to see which one broke. It's so awesome that electronics have come down in price to the point where almost anyone can make something to bring to the smaller events. I also love how driving is a big part of the sport. And even that there is teamwork with so many bots having multiple operators. The pits are full of teamwork. All of the creativity and engineering that goes into things. People helping each other all the time. It's just so wholesome! Anyway, I'm really looking forward to seeing the last of the pre-tournament fights and I'm imagining they will show how the seeding for the tournament will shake out? I'm going to bet it all on HUGE!

Huge gonna take the nut! Kidding aside I think they have a chance.

I've wondered if there was a way to engineer a bot frame that was somewhat compliant to absorb impacts. When something is fully rigid the energy finds the weakest part and breaks it. Maybe the plastic actually helps?

That was a good episode. Disappointing that Whiplash clearly wasn't working right. Jake shows his true colors as a class act.

I've always liked Copperhead too. Robert Cowan's YouTube channel shows how even though the outside looks the same Copperhead has various internal improvements over the years. I think they have a shot if they just send it weapon first into the weapon of whatever they are fighting. It's not a sure win or anything, but I think that's the best shot they have. That or if the driver can get next level skills to dance around their opponent.

I have never been so happy with how the final episode went. Most of my favorites were there and that final fight was amazing. Such a great episode. I always believed in Huge, but you have to give it to Sawblaze. They picked a risky attachment but they had a plan and it paid off. Everyone should be proud of what they accomplished. This sport has come so far.

That's a load of horseshit anyway because the kid they got to drive Riptide did a fine job. Not like he made some huge mistake that cost them the match.

It's been a couple days and I'm still thinking about how great this season was. Lots of bots that didn't seem like they had a chance in the past did great this year. Shout out to Clawviper for going from almost a joke to very competitive. Too many to list but so many non-meta bots did so well this year. Anyway I am very pleased.
