BattleBots and NHRL aren't competitors anyway, I don't know why it would be an issue.

Emulsifier never got aggressive and spent the time it wasn't airborne spinning up or positioning. It took more damage and didn't control the fight in any way. That may not have been a strong win but it was a clear one.

Was there some kind of malfunction going on with Whiplash? I don't think I saw their weapon ever spinning up, and the whole match seemed like something just wasn't working there.

They were having speed controller issues. Also one of the hits killed their weapon ESC.

Hammer saws aren't saws, they're just flywheels on a stick. They don't need prolonged contact like a saw.

This is a problem with any vertical without a feeder wedge. Speed adjustments and tooth profile will make a tremendous difference, they just have to get it dialed in.

Huge is a weird bot, and it has some very obvious flaws, but have we ever seen a flipper try to take it on legitimately? Did Huge fight Bronco once? I can't see that being effective, but Huge is one of the more unpredictable bots.

Huge keeps getting flipper fights and I'm not sure why. I think it's fought all of them at some point.

Overkill flails around, makes a bunch of slamming noise, and looks like it's doing something to an untrained eye while causing almost no damage. It's the perfect jobber.

It seems Doomba was originally slated to fight Rusty. Then things happened. Certainly explains why their armor was so poorly suited to fighting Double Tap.

Losing a good fight is better than winning a bad one. There's also the risk of the fight getting restarted for being over so quickly without, you know, a fight. It is TV after all.

Claw Viper vs Overhaul also surprisingly good. Overhaul is a lot of fun when it isn't getting immediately ripped apart.

Realistically what else were they going to do? Sawblaze has longer reach and longer forks with a driver competent enough skorpios can't reliably bully him around the arena. Might as well go for glory with a dumb gimmick.

There is a tradition after matches of signing pieces of your robot the other team ripped off and giving it to them. He wanted to completely cut off a piece of the Overkill sword to get that trophy.

I doubt Skorpios cared.

There's also at least 5 others since he built a bunch of Overkills to job at the live shows.

The ewerts have a long history of being rules lawyer types. The things they do aren't always in the spirit of the competition but are technically allowed. See: son of whyachis initial weight bonus as a walker for using shufflers, minibots that do nothing but high center opponents, the bike rack. Kinda douchy but not being assholes.

I love high-center minibots and shufflers, an opinion I've had forever. More weight bonuses for silly engineering!

Shufflers are cool but they aren't walkers and don't deserve the full bonus weight a walker gets. I love seeing crazy poo poo like stompychomp even if it's not effective.

too many teams used those minibots prior and after for me to hold that against them, and warrior clan using them was because it was designed for the 200lbs class and it's legitimately a psychotic enough design that you can't really simply just 'scale it up'. using that extra weight as minibots just so you can get a design that never got on TV is fine

I was thinking more of the 1lb micro wedges new Son of Whyachi used briefly. They were entirely incapable of doing anything but high centering the target. With things like warrior clans wedges or shaman they at least had the ability to release after wedging.

Beta vs Black dragon
A hammer bot is effectively a control bot that can poke at exposed chains and things. betas decision to remove it's own ability to maintain control and use it's lighter weapon is just :psyduck:

Great Beer

It's basically the best possible shape to hit with a vert. Without forks/a wedge or some way to counter one you're hosed, regardless of armor profile.

Great Beer

It also looked like overhauls lifter scraped the floor along the entire flat part on the bottom instead of just the tip. Which meant that as soon as it took even the slightest bit of force they bent upwards about half a degree and could no longer get under cobalt.

Makes me wonder...

If you made a list of all 'scaled up' bots, how many of them actually worked?

Depending on how you define worked, quite a few. Huge, sawblaze, riptide, minotaur (sorta), and mammoth have all had varying levels of success.

Overhaul and mega tento both worked fine, though I'd hesitate to call either of them good. That's more due to the increased lethality between when they were designed vs when they were scaled.

There's things like smeeeee, starchild, or horizon that just don't seem to be (or aren't) working because tiny spinners don't work on things that can tank a hit from something like tombstone.

And then there's shreddit bro which has no concept level flaws but it's full of mechanical ones.

Great Beer
Jul 5, 2004

Shreddit bro definitely CAN be good. They aren't yet but if they come back I think they can get the bugs sorted out. And as seen vs Overhaul they're well on their way.

Great Beer

Treads are for reducing ground pressure so you don't get bogged down on soft surfaces like dirt and sand. Not exactly useful on a hard metal floor.

Great Beer
