I left 2022 with a grin on my face because the good guys were winning. The Chinese people stood up to the CCP. The Ukrainians are kicking Russian rear end. The Republicans underperformed during the midterms. Trump was humiliated by the Jan 6 committee and the release of his tax returns. Bolsonaro lost re-election. Fox News is losing its lawsuit from Dominion.

quote:

THE RINO CIRCUS BEGINS
Voting for the speaker of the house starts this afternoon…does Kevin have the votes?

Rep. Kevin McCarthy might become Speaker of The House today if he can scrape up enough votes. We at GrrrGraphics do not support him because he has been known to exhibit tendencies of a RINO (Republican In Name Only). He’s backstabbed Trump and seems to believe the old political adage, ‘To get along, you go along.’ He goes along with the Democrats and the Deep State Globalist Swamp. Surely the Republicans can find a true Republican for Speaker. Someone who believes in limited government. Someone who wants to cut spending. Someone who wants to protect the rights of the Individual. Someone who wants America First.

McCarthy is a ’status quo’ Republican just like many other ’never Trumpers’ including Paul Ryan, Mitt Romney, and Mitch McConnell. McCarthy is more Uni-party than party unifier. If elected, the Republicans may as well change their mascot from an elephant to a rhinoceros.

It's pretty funny to see all these business Republicans freaking out that some of their members have strong enough beliefs to wield the power they have to advance the agendas they promised to support at election time, instead of just following orders from a political establishment that opposes what they want. Ramirez if you wanted to be part of a careerist business party that dumpsters its promises immediately upon getting access to the political patronage networks and machine support, should have been a Democrat!

Also it's sad because the principles these hardliner right-wing guys are sticking to are evil :(

I was about to say I don't even know what the difference is, we are what we pretend to be.

I suppose a right-wing equivalent of The Squad could be hucksters (talk a big far right game then vote party line when asked, vote present when asked, support the party machine nominee for speaker without extracting any concessions, etc), and that would be different from ideologues since they wouldn't get their professed agenda accomplished, but unless these reps cave and vote for McCarthy they aren't that.

The problem the republicans are having right now is something they created themselves. They spent 50+ years radicalizing their base with idiotic and often conflicting conspiracy theories none of the establishment actually believed like "Democrats Are Evil Satanic Worshiping Jewish Nazi Baby Eating Pedophiles And The Mainstream Press Is In On It!" because it reliably locked in their votes. Only now people in the conservative base who have grown up being constantly exposed to that bullshit from the conservative media silo are old enough and prominent enough to actually get elected themselves. Which means now the establishment is faced with a bunch of actual true believers who are every bit as uncontrollable as the radicalized base they spawn from and the whole thing is spiraling out of control.

From what I understand, the motivating factor is the holdouts want a guarantee from McCarthy that he be willing to shut down the government rather than raise the debt ceiling.

I get that China Daily's whole thing is that the U.S. is the great enemy keeping noble China from benevolently ruling the world, but come on. 'America talks about the importance of a free press because America is puppeting America, to serve evil American Imperialist interests.' It's literally 'Free Speech is bad, actually' written in bold.

You could improve this by using stand-ins for Taiwan, South Korea and Japan, at least making the point that U.S. interest in those counties is just puppeteering them against their true ally, but this is just lazy as well as being bad.
