Bulldogs should have traded away English back when he had value, I have never seen a ruck more terrified of contact. And his work around the ground isn't even there anymore either, we'd have legit been better off playing fat & out of shape Crossley.

Carlton play Collingwood next Friday night lol. Basically the biggest stage to possibly go 0-4. Side note I was in Perth this week and Optus Stadium looks sick. Keen to get back there for a game.

It loving SUCKS being a team on the way down. My whole adult life Melbourne have either been really poo poo, pretty poo poo, coming up, or really good. So I was either excited about maybe getting a win, or excited about playing finals and competing for flsgs. This is my first time in the way down and it's awful. There's nothing to look forward to.

Maybe Crom are also just good this year (or have extra superpowers at Adelaide Oval), or Richmond are really just bad-bad, but hey, I’ll take it.

Not a big fan of Hawks winning ways. The 3peat was too recent and gently caress Sam Mitchell. This isn't good!

So I was either excited about maybe getting a win, or excited about playing finals and competing for flsgs. I think we’ve got a good set of really promising young players, and the fact that we debuted 5 (plus a club debut) in round 1 suggests to me that internally we had some recognition that this year was about the future more than the now. We traded out our first round pick this year, which sucks, but it was to double up on what we thought was a more promising draft last year rather than to get a ready to go player. Would we have expected it to be a potentially top 3 pick we were giving up rather than a 8-12? Probably not, but it’s not entirely disastrous. For me though I’d largely given up on the idea of us ever winning a flag so I’ve got a hell of a lot I can look back on with joy from this patch. We’re not as well positioned as Richmond pre-Tassie but I’d rather be in our spot than say Collingwood who while they’ll be better than us this year, I don’t think are going to challenge for a flag, and have some massive gaps to fill on their list by the time the draft will be most compromised.

So I was either excited about maybe getting a win, or excited about playing finals and competing for flsgs. This was me over the last few years. I started following football around 2001 and the Crows were always either pretty good, or else their time in the wilderness was quite short (missed finals in 2004, minor premiers in 2005, had two bad years in 2010/11, made a prelim in 2012, two average years in 2013/14 followed by several good years in a row). But by the time 2020 came along it was clear that we were going to be near the bottom of the ladder for years to come, and that proved very true. The preseason camp destroyed our team culture, most of our team had retired or chosen to leave, our spiritual leader in Walker was busy learning how to not be an overt racist in public, and our on-field performances were abominable. And we didn't even have a premiership from that time period to look back on. Still, there was some enjoyment in watching the likes of Thilthorpe, Rachele and Soligo come in and show something. And then with good picks we were able to go after the likes of Dawson and Rankine, and "win" some trade weeks for once. And there was at least the AFLW team to keep my love for the club alive when the men's team was giving me nothing. Focus on enjoying watching the debutants as they come in, watching the deck chairs shuffle in the coaching group, and death-riding your rival teams. Once your team is finally good again, the embers will spark up pretty quick. cmndstab fucked around with this message at 13:57 on Mar 29, 2025 |

Watching ANB get around for the Crows has made me realise the value of glue guys. Brayshaw at the start of 2024 then ANB last offseason, clearly the two biggest on and off field glue guys for the Dees. Now look at us. Not saying it's the only reason but clearly a big factor.

On top of that we didn’t seem to realise we were in fact losing Gus (which doesn’t speak well to our management) when we let James Jordon walk for better opportunities at Sydney.
