So I was either excited about maybe getting a win, or excited about playing finals and competing for flsgs. Just enjoy the rollercoaster, now we're poo poo it's more exciting when we eventually win. Besides it's a good time to invest your time into watching the young kids and fringe players get opportunities and develop, like Harvey Langford who played a quarter in his first game, got slagged off by all the fans, gets a run in the VFL then gets called up and gets a rising star nod. Also, the fans should have been able to tell we were in for a poo poo year the moment they announced they were bringing back the flame head tops.

He marked, got hit late, ball spilled... it was a mark. He would've almost certainly kicked at least a point to draw the game.

Yeah, the Rankine non-mark/free was a shocker. There was probably a dozen 50/50s that went against us that you could individually argue on technicalities, but that one was blatant. My favourite umpiring howler of the day was when Gold Coast got a mark, and the umpire is saying "it's Rowell's kick, back to Rowell please". Everyone stops while they wait for the ball to be returned to Rowell, but then mid-sentence the umpire suddenly just yells "PLAY ON" and the Gold Coast player just runs it forward uncontested.

I like the father-son rule, but when you have two players who might combined with the most Brownlow's and Coleman's in next 10 years, it makes me question it.
![]() |

The father-son rule (and academy rules etc) are good things. What is not good is that way the system can be abused to get them without having to actually give up any serious draft capital. If Nick Daicos had actually cost pick 2, or something equivalent to it, there wouldn't be any complaints.
![]() |
Father son/academy picks should come at a points premium instead of a discount. If you elect to jump up the draft order it should cost you points to do so, not net you them.
![]() |
What is the advantage of the father-son rule aside from the obvious one of getting dibs on potentially good players? How does it benefit the league? I assumed it was an ancient rule they don't want to scrap because of tradition.

The father-son rule is bullshit, but people like it because a. that's the way we've always done it and we can't change things from the way we've always done it b. they think it's cute when someone gets to play on the same team their dad played for
