Surely that counts as a dead ball, right?

Yeah dead ball. It’s a dead ball even for a fairly minor disruption, ie bails falling off, bird flying through the pitch etc. Everything going black certainly counts.

Hot spot camera would have still kinda worked if that was still used.

I think this is it... I think this is how it ends
The first result of the county championship came in the first hour of day three between Kent and Northamptonshire. God I love early season first class cricket to get me in the mood for a summer of Englanding

It's pretty funny how varied the matches are.
Given it's been a week of almost pristine weather, I was expecting a lot more roads, but I guess it's hard to tell sometimes if it's a sporting pitch or just poo poo batting.

Someone on Bluesky has come-up with the idea that the only roads will be put out for surrey so that there is a draw with all the other pitches curated for a result.

Jamie Smith, too. 20-odd and 30-odd at a 50+ strike rate when you're trying to save the game is not a great look.

66 off 221 with 181 dot balls from Sibley.
122 off 340 balls with 280 dots from D'Olivera
Waite's still batting, but on 81 off 283 with 237 dots.

I fukken love to see it.

It was a draw, so all the good.

And it's the first game of the season.

In fairness, it was a run out where he was at most half to blame

Yeah I definitely feel that run out was more on Sibley than Smith, Sibley immediately turned for the second and was haring down the pitch while Smith was yelling NO, they ended up at the same end, and Smith was forced to make a dash for it.

Now maybe there genuinely was two there if Smith had been as quick as Sibley? Sure, maybe. But they were trying to save the game: turning one into two is not worth risking a wicket in those circumstances.

Oh well, it was a draw in the end so it's all moot.

Totally agree. No need for a risky second in th at situation. Stupid cricket.

It was widely reported he was going to, I heard the delay was ticking off all the medical boxes for insurance/settlement with CA. No idea how true that is.

I might be mixing olympics up with the commonwealth games too, but the costs were putting off countries who might have been willing to host and with extra sports wouldn't that be an extra limitation?
