Boo
Cricinfo says Hazelwood is fine, but Abbott is out.

Only got 50s in each innings but hopefully Smith is in form. I think Australia's batting will decide the Ashes, so if he goes sicko mode that should seal it.

No Obvious Flaws

The Guardian runs down their Top 100 Ashes players of all time:

https://www.theguardian.com/sport/ng-interactive/2025/nov/11/100-greatest-mens-ashes-cricketers

Haven't read it yet, so am not outraged.

[edit] I am, however, outraged it runs from 41-100 rather than 100-41.

Mark Wood has tweaked his hamstring for England against the England Lions while Benjamin Stokes has taken four wickets

HAVE AT THEE!

Even by Mark Woods standards getting injured on the first day of the first warm up game of an ashes tour is impressive.

Stokes is England's best bowler and are going to be absolutely hosed after the first test when he bowls himself into another injury.

All their bowlers are fragile. It's the reason they'll lose

I had a video of that when I was about 6.

I remember it being shit.

I look forward to the dead-rubber 5th Test when England play 4 spinners (plus Joe Root and Will Jacks) because their other bowlers are all injured.

The answer is, mate, because I want to do you slowly. There has to be a bit of sport in this for all of us. In the psychological battle stakes, we are stripped down and ready to go. I want to see those ashen-faced performances; I want more of them. I want to be encouraged. I want to see you squirm.

Minor correction: the only warmup game

It could be the only game where they're not carrying dead bowlers by day 2. They might have a chance at that one.

I'M CONCERNED ABOUT A NUMBER OF THINGS

I only saw highlights but it looked like he got all his wickets from players going the slog

Also why are they playing the Lions instead of the Prime Minister's XI or something?

The importance of this mission cannot be overemphasized

Shield cricket is playing at the same time, so any game against a PM XI or whatnot would be against a team of state reserves and kids, probably on a dodgy pitch. Better off having a competitive game where blokes are trying to get selected and everyone in squad gets a bowl and a hit, on a wicket where they have some say in how it's prepared.

That's the reasoning from the England side anyway.
