#2223: Still pining

![]() Decided to make an image for an MSPaint archipelago I'm part of next month.

|
Tried drawing the same portrait over and over and analyzing errors. Getting the likeness is hard. Some of them I think look like an ok drawing of a person but none of them really look like the person (https://www.pinterest.com/pin/657595983071758429/) and some are wonky as hell

Can Of Worms posted:It might be useful to study caricatures, since they're intentionally deformed it's easier to figure out key elements that make a person recognizable. Hmm, good idea! I'll try that. I did try to turn the reference image upside down which helped a bit as well, but I guess I just have to draw a couple of hundred more to get good

More faces! (disregard the one on second top left, I just wanted to see what happened if I exaggerated making the features small)

I really liked doing last year's kobolds, so I'm kicking off #KoboldAdventCalendar2025. Let's see how far I go. Day #1: Pippa. ![]() She's scared of the dark but also likes scented candles, so that kinda works out okay.

I'm still deep into learning Blender, but I think I'm ready to put out my first hybrid 2D/3D piece--basically sculpting out almost the whole thing in 3d, then doing a paintover to add texture and some effects that I haven't figured out how to do (or am too lazy to do) directly in Blender yet. Hopefully, I can reach a point where it isn't obvious at all that a piece started life as a 3d render, and ideally where only 10% of this is paintover. I'd say about 30-40% of this is paintover right now. I'm not sure yet if I want to fashion a node setup that simulates brush textures, as I might lose more control of brushstrokes than I'd like. This one took many many hours, both sculpting and painting. ![]() Omelette du Gommage took about 4 hours; another goal of mine is to be able to use Blender for quick sketchy pieces as well and not just ambitious ones like above. ![]() I do think that some aspects are of lower quality than some of my other pieces, but that's to be expected while I try to get my 3d legs to catch up with my 2d ones.
