mystes posted:I think perhaps the reason the US has chosen to install stop signs at so many intersections is that it's not clear on many local streets if one street is more major than the other and has priority or if it should be treated as an all way stop if no sign explicitly designates one of the roads to be more “major” (in the us I guess this would be a sign that literally says “cars coming from the left and right have to yield to you” or something stupid), and/or if one of the streets doesn’t have stop or yield signs, the priority to the right rule is supposed to apply making it a four way stop is just dumb and makes the flow of traffic less efficient, but that’s what’s been done in most of these intersections in America due to the inability of people to apply the priority to the right rule correctly
