targetted advertising is going away soon, due to legal and technical advancements, and even though it's been shown to not work much better than context based ads, it's literally the only id any tech corp has ever had and they don't think they can make money any other way. so instead, they've resorted to literally asking for money for nothing, for a few blue pixels

the shocking thing to me is that they're not looking into stuff like just old fashioned context based ads. but maybe they are actually doing that behind the scenes, and they can just flip a switch once apple and chromium or the european commission kill cookies and tracking

since the banks received the face value of the bonds that they were going to get anyway in eight years, i wouldn't consider this a bailout.

the bailout will be in a year when the fed is just going to say 'hey remember when we said you had to pinky swear that we'd do the reverse trade a year later? just forget about that' and the banks aren't going to have to buy their low interest bonds back

yeah, i guess this may have been one of the stories i remembered.
maybe i could have been a bit more precise in what i meant. not actually a systemic bailout, but one to restore trust in the system.

pseudo incest (step stuff) is a fairly popular fetish, and one that doesn't require any specific sex acts (bdsm) or appearance (black or asian fetish).
this means you can easily add it to any other scene that's not already role-based (and even if it is! why not make that doctor/teacher also your stepdad?).
people who are into it will consider the scene to be up their alley.
people who are not into it will ignore the stepmom stuff because they think 'its just porn being porn' and will also buy it

so its just something you can add, almost as an afterthought, to appeal to a certain specific group, and you can mix it with pretty much anything else

a biostatician once told me this:

old doctors will see uncommon things and interpret them as common things (a rare exotic parasite being diagnosed as stomach flu).
new doctors will see common things and interpret them as uncommon things (a stomach flue diagnosed as an exceedingly rare tropical disease).
its because the old ones have seen a lot of patients, and 99% of them are for common things. the new doctors haven't seen enough patients to know this yet, so they look for something that most perfectly fits the symptoms, rather than the most statistically likely problem within the bounds of the symptoms and possible presentations.

he wasnt quite certain yet which of the two was worse, because both result in patients not getting the right treatment.

as someone with a problem that has a few doctors stumped (as has been the case for over six months), id say i prefer it when a younger doctor sees my problem as a puzzle worth solving, rather than the old doctor who just says 'take a painkiller and see if it goes away on its own'

the most horrible thing about the whole 'hows it going' ritual is that even the question of whether you should respond, respond and ask the same, or just ask the same, or not even acknowledge the question is so intensely regional and people take offense if you do it the wrong way

like there's parts of the us where 'heyhowaya' is a normal greeting that people aren't even supposed to respond to.
other places really expect you to answer 'fine thank you, and you?' or something like that.
in polite society in the uk you're supposed to respond to 'how do you do' with 'how do you do'

i have absolutely no problem with responding with the expected formula even if its an insincere 'fine, thank you', but these regional differences make it way too difficult to know what the desired response is.

what im saying is humans should be like apis and just respond with 200 without any other formulations needed

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-04-24/frank-founder-javice-moved-millions-to-signature-from-jpmorgan

Frank founder Charlie Javice said she moved millions of dollars out of JPMorgan Chase & Co. accounts after the bank fired her and accused her of fraud but then wound up getting caught up in the collapse of Signature Bank.

Javice, whose college-finance site JPMorgan acquired for $175 million in 2021, said in a Friday court filing in Delaware federal court she moved her money to Signature in September 2022. JPMorgan had put her on administrative leave days earlier and would later sue her for fraud, claiming she vastly inflated the number of Frank customers during acquisition negotiations.

“As it happened, that timing was ill-fated,” Javice’s lawyer said of her transfers to Signature. “To the surprise of even the most seasoned players in the banking industry, on or about March 10, depositors at Signature Bank began a ‘run’ on the bank, thereby increasing the fear and likelihood of what did indeed result: the third largest bank failure in U.S. history.”

She said she managed to withdraw her money from Signature and moved it to other “major domestic institutions.” But her accounts were seized earlier this month by federal prosecutors who charged her with defrauding JPMorgan.

JPMorgan had suggested in a previous filing that Javice was trying to hide assets in her Nevada shell companies, but she responded on Friday that the government seizure vitiated any such concern.

“Whatever argument JPMC might have had for discovery to prevent asset dissipation is now moot,” Javice said.

Javice, who is free on a $2 million bond, has not yet responded in court to the criminal charges or the SEC suit. She’s denied JPMorgan’s claims in its Delaware fraud case and is counter-suing.

On Friday, Javice said her transfers were reasonable in light of JPMorgan’s actions against her. She said “she no longer wanted to bank with an entity that was retaliating against her and baselessly accusing her of severe misdeeds.”

methinks the fraudster doth protest too much

i think the thing that trips up a lot of people is that there's two very different groups that are "scared" of ai.

1. elon and his guys, who think that ai is already smarter than us, and that it's going to sentiently enslave us in a few months

2. reasonable people, who have seen what algorithmic discrimination does to poor people and minorities and rightly fear that this will get even worse as ai replaces a few more people that were still in the loop

the problem is that news outlets arent interested in depth and it takes a few minutes to sit and think to untie these two groups, so they both end up being represented in the same headlines

and because elon and his kind of morons screams a lot harder and conjures up images of terminators roaming the american wasteland, that second group kind of gets ignored. even though their concerns are much more immediately pressing an obviously more realistic
