*taps on mic* I’ll try to put some effort into a first post for this tonight, hoping to tempt people out of their hiding places this year. That said the first race was last weekend and absolutely owned: https://youtu.be/6xPXbh2cxz0

the race was very good and everyone should be posting about it here rather than (a) discord or (b) nowhere let's get this thread the attention it deserves, which is onto a 3rd page by the 500

I'll watch this garbage

I am here for IndyCar. I should probably go back to RA this year.

Only just noticed this exists. Indycar had its leaders crash into each other before Sebring made it fashionable.

Well, it was a pretty fun race. Nobody was really there and Sato went out way too early, but it was good to watch at least.

Absolutely incredible race, probably one of the best oval indycar races I've seen in years. Little peeved that everyone started crashing and O'Wards incredible pace didn't lead to a victory. But man it was exciting. I have grown to love oval racing. Usually they provide better action than the subpar street courses and tracks that indycar regularly sees.

Long Beach is this weekend. Yep.

Good strategy race and Indy being hesitant to throw the flags.

Kirkwood actually looks like a good driver again? In this economy?
|
![]() |

I was kind of hoping for a few laps under yellows so that the drivers could go full beans to the end of the race, but still a decent strategy race and it seems like Andretti has their cars figured out this year.

Also IIRC the Argentinian announcer said that he had a chance to win, even though he was already a lap down.
|

I don't think he was, he was shown first at that point. But obviously he was nowhere near on pace and owed everyone a pitstop so it would never have actually worked.

I actually think it wasn't the worst possible strategy call in hindsight, but even then it was in hopes of jumping from the back to mid pack. Given how much fuel a lot of Chevy teams had to save, I think sacrificing the yellow pit stop could have played in their favor. Gain track position during the yellow when everyone else stops, run as long as you can before pitting under green, actually be able to race the last stint. It just fails miserably when you're the only one doing it, your teammate gets released from the pits at nearly the worst possible time, and you hit the wall.

As much as anything they were probably just hoping to get some good sponsor shots and the pit release for the other was just a gently caress up.

Hey this 100 Days to Indy is halfway decent (at least, so far into the first episode). Usually think of outside media just showing a bunch of crashes and saying things like "it's dangerous but these guys are death-defying evil kenevels" then showing another crash montage

I’m going to try and ~ just post ~ more this year. The race yesterday was boring. Why was it on a Saturday? Give them an extra day for 500 quals?
|
![]() |
|
Maybe that or they (TV) didnt want the race to be on the same time as IMSA

Is the other Indy road course race also on a Sunday, because I thought it was about not racing on the Sunday because that keeps it a step down from the 500.

Yea looks like it’s Saturday Aug 12 unless I’m reading the schedule wrong. Odd wrinkle but whatever works I guess. Looking at the schedule I might try and go to the Portland race. Anyone been before?

It’s right near a light rail stop that serves from downtown, but I’ve also heard it’s not drawing too well so you might be alright parking ![]()

I went the first year they came back and parking was hilariously expensive. Spent way less taking rideshare to within walking distance of the track, and then light rail back into town at the end of the day.

I read somewhere that the road course race was on a Saturday to give more time for 500 practice / logistics of some type, maybe for the lower tier races

I think strategically they want a “month of May” but it’s harder and harder to justify more and more practice running just for the 500 in this day and age. The fun factor is the other road course race in mid summer is also held on a Saturday, as if there’s some sanctity to the date of IndyCars running anything at the Speedway.
