I think they spaced the two Wisconsin races well enough.

Watching them run full downforce and still have to drop to 3rd in the corners is insane though.

NERF THIS!

quote:

IndyCar CEO Mark Miles publicly slammed the idea that the series should return to any of the “old” tracks on which it used to compete, and that the series should always be looking forward to new horizons. That may be a fairly challenging prospect; in the past 30 years, American open-wheel racing has experimented with and then dropped over 45 different race tracks, including international venues.

Today, we’ve collected a list of every track IndyCar no longer races on, going back to 30 years, to understand how many venues the series has done away with during its time as IndyCar, CART, and the IRL.

See if you can find the commonalities!

Lipstick Apathy
Local Australian press has Indycar talking about racing in Adelaide on the street circuit. Unclear if it'd be the full old F1 track which from memory is I believe technically still able to be used, unlike the Gold Coast.

They also reignited the whole debate by declaring they'd "draw more fans than the V8s" which was the loving tiresome argument for years on the Gold Coast.

Isn’t some variety of the Adelaide circuit still used for Supercars? Or did that go away.

Would be interesting. Shame that The Bend is a ways away, the one big race I saw there (Asian Le Mans, in the midst of all those wildfires in Australia and just before COVID closed everything) was pretty fun.

Tasty

It is, basically chops off a lot of the middle of the F1 circuit though.

Not sure how I feel about the "Grand Prix of Arlington (TX)". That area is a clusterfuck and the images I've seen of the potential layout leave basically no real viewing areas on the track unless you fork up for a grandstand ticket.

The big change this year was adding light hybrid systems to the current engine package.

There's no confirmation of when new chassis would come, but the plan is likely coming together now (it's been discussed for a couple years now, COVID impacted both the chassis and hybrid engines).

Rumors continue perpetually about a third engine OEM, but nothing is confirmed there either.

Weird how sparse the first few months are, only to hit a race every two weeks or better until the end of August when the season ends. I guess some folks don’t tune in to the series until the 500

And only today did I realize they moved to Fox and there is no streaming service that carries it other than the ones that just have broadcast Fox.

Will be interested to see how the audience numbers look moving from NBC/peacock all to fox. I still think indycar does a terrible job marketing itself, but this broadcast has been fine so far.

There was rumor bouncing around that Fox would be putting the full races up on YouTube the Monday after, which would be very good for my uses and basically ensure IndyCar Live is without value for my purposes.

Dixon didn’t have radio comms with his team for the whole race. That’s pretty wild.

Most fans don't actively dislike him as a person, but many many people are tired of seeing him win championships and generally find him boring.

Scott Dixon is the inevitable winner. He sucks all luck, all joy, and all speed out.

may he never win another Indy 500 and suffer only having seven IndyCar championships

You know how people felt about Vettel and Hamilton and Verstappen at the peak of their careers? Dixon's been kinda doing that for 20 years, but not always in top-teir equipment -- early in his career the engine that Ganassi was using was lacking in horsepower so to win he had to learn to fuel save like crazy and now he's pretty much the most efficient racecar driver on earth so any time any strategy goes to fuel savings, Dixon inevitably shows up at the top.

He just doesn't make mistakes and is very versatile. He's a chill dude and I enjoy him, although I wasn't watching the sport during his first...5? championships so I'm not like super tired of him? I can imagine Palou being the next Dixon for sure. Similar vibe I think.
