I have encountered this behavior several times over the course of my life and I think it's loving crazy. Why do you turn all the lights off for a movie but not regular TV?? Just seems like a recipe for falling asleep to me

Lights off most of the time in my house because I like to save electricity and dislike leaving lights on if I don’t need them. Movies and/or TV make no difference in this.

Yes, I do and I think mostly because of how dark modern movies are mixed with the compression used by various streaming sites. Otherwise, it's hard telling what the hell is going on.

Turning off the lights lets you really enjoy all the visuals in the movie OP. Although I usually leave the lights on because I know I'm gonna get several beers during the movie and don't want to fumble with the lights or risk tripping over some poo poo.

Seriously though if a movie can't hold your attention enough to keep you from falling asleep it's probably not a very good movie and you're better off sleeping through it anyway

I don't turn them off, no. I have hue lights in my living room and I'll put on something mood appropriate for a movie. So softer lighting.

I like the way the glow of the screen lights up my wife’s smile when she finds my hog in the bottom of the popcorn bowl. I think it’s cute how she still pretends to be surprised even after all these years
