Hey all Townie here, I've got powers (duh) but I've got no control over them, and I don't know how it'll be reported so if you see my name on any oddball actions at night I assure you it was not intentional Unless it helps the the town win because then it was absolutely intentional and I should get MVP

Having not done a Mafia game in years, and never on SA, I really want to see Chekhov's [strike]gun[/strike] multi-ball go off, although saying this now is kind of damning if it ends up being an ability that kills a lot of folks randomly Speaking of which, anyone have ideas on the role of the actual pinballs are? Are they actual roles? Are they effectively bullets, making the Chekhov reference that much more apt? Can they provide the Town an alternate type of win if we hit a NEW HIGH SCORE??

Making a note to post more and lurk less so I can at least do the bare basic post formatting
While I know most of you vets here are enjoying a casual first day, I'm hooked on the mysteries of the roles, so I'm gonna be that person and start guessing mechanics Bonus lights tend to accumulate by striking different parts of the pinball board, and lights go off when you strike the same spot again (although usually alternating with each strike) So as votes for Green Wing increase, the number of lights needed go up, and if I had to hazard a guess, the more votes for different people we have in a day the more lights will light up - and does seem thematically appropriate to the chaos caused by a multi-ball Multi-balls are uuuuusually a good thing, more points and all that, though I'm equally willing to believe the ability just causes chaos for chaos' sake rather than being helpful towards either townies or scum

Paranoid Dude posted:Would you not be honored to be part of the glorious, honored dead laid low by the magnificent multiball? It would be funny! Though I'm inclined to think it won't kill people as sudden mass death, especially one that looks like it could trigger on the first day, doesn't usually make a game very fun
Also also Green Wing having to describe lights in every post automatically gives him a giant target on his back (look at those votes already!), which is more dangerous to game balance giving it to a scum and getting them knocked out early vs a townie, assuming there's more townies than scum as is standard Which is a lotta words to say #IStandByGreenWing (GW - please don't be scum, I wanna play for more than a couple days)
Wins gives me scum vibes but I'm not committed yet as I also get the vibes that they just generally have that as their forum MO
Oh hell, still working on getting out of the really dumb and bad habit of using he/she without knowing (especially defaulting to "he") - apologies GW! Clarifying with specifics: wins throwing out votes early is antagonistic but also likely a joke, BUT ALSO possibly a "joke" to get votes on townies rolling, but... also could still just be a joke as there's a need for a lot of pointless posting on the first day to meet reqs So I'm clarifying that I'm not very clear And rambling slightly to ensure I don't accidentally end up under the post reqs
Was just about to post saying GW adding text would be a risky but hilarious gambit if fake, due to investigation-like roles being ubiquitous, and now here we are While I'm way more leery, I believe GW is a townie as scum are still way more wary about sticking their necks out like this unless cornered or forced by an ability
In a game like this, is it necessarily better to clench a vote on the first day? More standard Mafia it means delaying while scum get the time they need to work out an advantage somehow, and the risk:reward of possibly losing a townie to outing one of the few scum usually being worth it But a game like this, rife with powers, if the town has a majority it also has a majority of powers to use, and since outing a townie is more likely than scum (and potentially losing a strong power as well), does waiting have a benefit? Or, on the flip side, do the scum usually get the extra murder abilities that once again makes delays be in their favor?

Green Wing posted:We absolutely want to flip somebody. Scum will generally kill somebody who was fairly uninvolved in discussions so we can't rely on that flip for info. Forgoing the flip d1 is a very bad thing for town to do. Noted, in which case I'll ##vote Johnny Keats - the early "role-fishing" stuff I didn't care about but the "it was actually to use my power for good, and also you shouldn't use powers on me" leaves a bad taste
##unvote Keats has actually convinced me he's town - his posts are questionable but all his posts defending himself really sound like they're coming from someone who is on their own, and not really trying to deflect votes to/give scum buddies an outlet to vote for another person I'll get a vote in later with reasoning, though honestly I don't have anything good, especially not knowing posters from other games I lean towards voting on quiet players, which could be just real life time to post limitations, but I feel like lurkers are such because they get their fill of playing the game in the background scum channels Honestly I'd vote for Joseph but, in any game, I hate picking on new players because I want them to be encouraged to join future games (Saying this as a new person, this isn't an indirect gambit of saying don't pick on me) Obviously, once we're past the "vibes-only" stage and the scum-meter on them goes up, all bets are off
Wait, do I have to bold that? I'm so bad at this ##unvote
I'm leaning towards taste or Toal right now but want to marinate on it At the moment, taste > Toal, but Toal is closer to clenching the votes, which I agree we should reach on someone today

Talking myself out of things constantly here, and may end up a huge flip-flopper this game and I'm sorry First, I've realized that I read terse/trollish posting as scum, which is hard for me to shake, but I'm trying - downgrading taste and Toal But I went back and read the first day again just to reassess and you know what I think is actually sus? Neutral play with mild, indirect accusations - asking questions without direct confrontation or voting, at least before other votes get thrown in and more scrutinized As such, Infinitum and Sandwolf fit the bill here, posting playful filler for the most part, almost damnably uncommitted in my (admittedly novice) opinion I'm actually feeling pretty good about this vote unless I missed something good to convince me otherwise ##vote Infinitum
Also, I'm trusting taste more in large part because they threw out one of the very first votes, which I feel isn't very scummy, joking or otherwise, due to the attention it draws
Keats seems to be throwing a legit fit about possibly being knocked out and being a newbie wanting to at least use powers/get into the meat of the game Which I get, I've played games as the newbie only to get railroaded by the vets in the first round or two and, admittedly, had to have a constrained tantrum or two myself (though now I feel older/wiser about expecting these things) It's poor sportsmanship but feels genuine and I'm willing to run the risk of scum association to defend him (at the moment)
I'm willing to adjust from Infinitum in the next couple of crucial hours but will not be voting for Keats or GW as I get strong townie vibes from both
Not sure if this will help but I got targeted last night, though I'm not told by what, but I had it redirected - maybe what killed b-minus? There are a lot of redirects apparently so it might not have been mine, but I would have been a "safe" kill for scum as a uncontroversial townie (as least before being part of a townie vote kill) - although this assumes scum have a kill ability, which I'm not sure in these games if that's normally too powerful for scum or just how the dice rolls if abilities are randomized between players
Still not thinking Keats is scum, that they just don't have a very slick posting style If GW is scum then it's absolutely hats off to them for taking a lead role in the game early on as scum and pulling it off so well - still an incredibly strong townie read for me Paranoid is starting to make me paranoid ##vote Meen - role overlap seems unlikely (though pinball parts can be paired), not really convincing me another vote right now is better, and it honors the dead's very clear wishes (RIP and sorry, Inf)
Actually I take that back, Paranoid being so forcefully certain on Keats and Meen strikes me as too risky for scum I don't agree with their arguments though!
Yeah that's a lurking concern, a vet powering through with high-level play, but that will need input from other vets that are familiar with the more meta aspects of playing these games on the forums

Johnny Keats posted:On the subject of GW being scum (which is probably something for after Iggy flips, anyway): Previous post was in reference to this, phone posting at lunch is slow posting
It's work hours in the US and early morning Aus, so I'd expect more posting from some in 3-5 hours
I can confirm now that Toal is telling the truth about their role Not whether they're scum or not, unfortunately, but at the very least note you can't target them directly
My ability did not activate last night - no one targeted me with anything I've really no ability-based leads on who is still scum, and obviously I can't read worth a drat given the last two day deaths, but I'm leaning ##vote taste as their low-key pseudo-troll posting feels like keeping their head down
Hardest thing about the game right now is figuring out what the hell to post to meet the post requirements Not posting is boring but I don't really want to just bloat things with filler either
Toalpaz posted:this is some classic scum stuff, I get the feathers being ruffled angle but PN being so assertive about his accusations, which won't make him any friends in the game, makes me feel distinctly the opposite
It might be super obvious at this point but, unless I've missed something crucial, Toal, GW, and I are all bumpers We're not in any kind of masonry, which keeps coming up and I would love if someone could explain what the hell that entails
Though I should rephrase, I'm not in any kind of masonry, which I would assume, at least at game start, the other two wouldn't have been either
Keats is not scum in any way I can read him - loquacious to a fault, absolutely, and shifting opinions as arguments happen a bit too quickly/openly, but not scum And I disagree deeply on the grounds of killing him "even if town" just for info
Slight spam posting - got dinged for too few posts, so I guess I need to split up my thoughts more
I stuck with ##vote taste last round and I'll do the same here
Going to be honest, wasn't reading GW as scum nearly all game but yesterday has shot her up quite a bit - said voting for someone that is likely town would be a bad idea, does it anyway, and had a lot of vote switching which I don't feel like is apt for a veteran player
Maybe she's not on the painkillers or whatever like she was as the beginning of the game and the posting shift is what is hitting an internal red flag for me
Literally all we get (or at least I get) is "someone used a power on you and it redirected" - no who what where when or why Okay I guess there's a when and why but that's a definite 3/5 W's missing
I activated Night 1, that's it
Sorry, long days in the bowels of the hospital, I'll try to catch up on things Yami - GW was solid town and got more scummy, not sure if actually scum but making me doubt my heavy trust in her, for the reason I posted along with it: Some were calling to kill Keats anyway for the reads, I said that was not a smart move for town, GW agreed with Keats likely being town and to not kill him, but when the day began to close decided to off him anyway I know I'm the new guy here but that's just bad play, and I feel like today her posting is uncharacteristically defensive - there's no way we're thinking there's a town-to-scum ability, is there? Writing this I'm convincing myself against GW but internally I don't like it because the first couple days she was such strong town

I can also only say so much as well, my track record isn't great overall, which, if not scummy, certainly shows off my reading prowess
