I've known a handful of IRL boxers who worked their tails off in hospitality jobs to fund their training. They were all incredibly determined, dedicated to the lifestyle, and dumb as bricks. Most ended up doing MLM stuff as they aged out in their early 30s. We used to go to KRONK boxing matches in Detroit and you could see boxers doing the "Homer fighting hobos" thing in real life. It would be some guy who looked like Michael Jai White fighting a guy who looked like he slept in a Tercel. Gotta get that sick record to be taken seriously.

I know somebody that is really proud their child just started getting into boxing. And I said hey what about getting them an MRI just as they're starting as a reference point. They said Soccer causes more brain injuries than boxing. I could imagine that being the case!

*Update* the child boxer is boxing my Hydrangeas by the sidewalk. Now I don't mind I just wonder why they are doing it. They don't appear to be doing any damage to them but they keep falling backward and start yelling at the road. It could be they are overhanging the sidewalk and I should have trimmed them.
