Did Android phones ship an awful keyboard update? Did somebody mess up escape character handling in their app's input entry box?

Google Photo backup somehow got turned on on my wife's phone and it immediately maxed out my storage plan, so Google threatened to disable my Gmail account

Google Photo does not provide a way to bulk delete photos

gently caress me that is downright evil. I can either pay $7 to use somebody's Google Photo Delete extension or run a script that selects all visible photos on the screen and asks to delete them so at least it's semi-automated

I never understood the whole mad dash to be on the plane first. The longer you can go without being crammed into a tight, uncomfortable place, the better. You have your ticket and seat assignment, it's not like they just let people onto the plane until it's full then "welp, too bad". The only thing is that the overhead bins fill up and there might not be space for your carry-on luggage if you wait until the end, but you can just gate-check your bag instead.

A couple things I've noticed:

1) Airline staff lie and will say overhead bag space is full when it's very much not. They'll even do this early in the boarding process. 9/10 times I call their bluff and am able to stow my bag just fine
2) Gate check is becoming less and less common. On the occasions where I have needed to check my carry-on, it's meant waiting an extra 45 minutes+ to pick it up at baggage claim

That being said, the pro choice is absolutely to relax and wait until boarding is nearly complete to board the plane. On my last flight the staff were offering early boarding to people who voluntarily checked their carry-ons - that's a punishment, not a reward.

Public transit is a great good, but public transit in the US is made purposefully bad to turn people off to the idea of it, and boy howdy does it loving work. You couldn't pay me enough to go back to waiting on the train platform for 20 minutes for the loving thing to show up, and then cramming my sweaty meaty body next to everyone else's bc it's taken so long there's no fuckin space. All while getting to hear everyone's music clashing together bc the percentage of people with good headphones is lower than you think, and some people just straight up dont use them and just treat their phone like a boombox.

It's a sensory nightmare I'll only return to in desperation. As long as I can afford a car, I am clinging to it bc this simple luxury of being able to travel by myself has increased my experience of life one hundredfold.

That aspect isn’t any different in populated areas outside the US

Really, I don't need a 2FA to use my Casey's or Kroger app for rewards points. I'm not all that worried about the $5 in fuel points I may lose if someone gets a hold of it. I just want my 50 cents off this goddamn can of soup without having to stand there in line making awkward apologies.

(Yes, I know I can use the phone number, but at Kroger it's three phone numbers ago and at Casey's it causes the system to develop amnesia.)

I, too, wish I could opt to ditch 2FA for things I don’t give the slightest gently caress about securing beyond using a complex auto-generated password.

I think this is happening because of a couple things: everybody’s trying to roll some dumbass payment system into their random app so it’s not just coupons but a way to pay for your groceries, and it cuts down on the support requests from people who enter “truck64” as their password to every single account they have.

https://www.biospace.com/researchers-answer-how-and-why-infants-die-from-sids

You’re confused by what people are saying. SIDS is a term given to any idiopathic death for an infant. Some portion of SIDS deaths are caused by issues like this. Another portion are caused by unsafe sleep practices or some other form of willful or accidental neglect. The figures vary wildly around the world because it’s an umbrella term for so many things.
